Guest guest
Dear Maharaja, Dandavats Pranams! All glories to Srila Prabhupada. One of the 6 limbs of Saranagati instructed by the SriVaishnava Acharyas, is to know the three great mantras, understand them and always remember them . 1. ASHTAKSHARA: ashta-akshara mantra which is Aum Namo Narayana The importance of this mantra has been emphasized by the great Azhwars (the 12 great Vaishnava Mahajanas from South India) and many other Vaishnava Acharyas, including the great Srila Naradji. Some slokams in Srimad Bhagavatam also confirm this. One should know this mantra, know its greatness, constantly chant and remember this mantra 2. DVAYA MANTRA: the two (dvaya) lined mantra have two angas - limbs SRIMAN NARAYANA SHARANAU SHARANAM PRABADHYE SRIMATE NARAYANAYA NAMAHA The first line exhorts one to bow down and offer Saranagati (surrender) unto the Supreme Lord Sriman Narayana's Lotus Feet; the second line explains what one gets out of such a surrender - Sriman Narayana Himself. This is why, Dvaya mantra is considered very important. The first line is considered as the Upayam (means) and the second line as Upeyam (end). 3. CHARAMA SLOKA This refers to the 18.66 sloka of Srimad Bhagavad Gita sarva dharman parityajya mam ekam saranam vraja aham tvam sarva papebhyo mokshayisyami ma suca These three slokams, the SriVaishnava Acharyas say, are the most important slokas for any Vaishnava: the first teaches who the Supreme Lord is, the second tells the devotee the means to reach the God (His mercy itself) and what he gets out of that means (the Lord Himself) and the third sloka asks the devotee to simply surrender unto the Supreme Lord, taking the Lord's own instruction from Srimad Bhagavad Gita. Maharaja,i got this above detailed answer from a Srivaishanav scholar. Vaishnava dasanu dasa, Mahendra das.
