My Dear Mahat-tattva dasa,

Please accept my obeisances. All Glories to Srila Prabhupada.

Here's my 2 cents, for what it's worth.

Disciplining the senses through their engagement in one of the 9 processes

of devotional service. This has been emphasized by Srila Prabhupada in his

lecture wherein he sites this verse. Of all the processes, (hearing,

chanting, etc.) he does make specific emphasis on the Chanting of the Holy

Names. Although in the modern context "restriction" or discipline or

regulation is not synonomous with freedom, it's effect is to purify the

senses for their ultimate freedom and entrance into the spiritual realm (the

real goal of freedom).
