Chief Inspector converted to lower case

'Subsequently, the Chief Inspector of Police of Navadvipa was cashiered...'

 

I'm told that according to modern style the Chief Inspector of Police should

now be rendered as the chief inspector of police. But somehow it just

doesn't seem right to me.

 

Similarly,

 

'...a religious meeting at Cuttack Town Hall...'

 

is now supposed to be '...a religious meeting at the Cuttack town hall...'

 

(NB conversion to lc necessitates adding an extra word)

 

I contend that even if modern usage prefers lc, in the era under discussion

(early 20th century India) upper case was the norm and that thus it's OK to

have the Chief Inspector of Police rather than the chief inspector of

police.

 

What about river Jambu or Jambu river as compared to River Jambu or Jambu

River?

 

'Drawing up the pure golden waters of the Jambü River [mentioned in

Çrémad-Bhägavatam], has this golden cloud arisen on the mountain...'
