It's more appropriate for a materialist sense enjoyer. I see no reason why a devotee should be enthusiastic with this kinds of quotations. Srila Visvanatha Chakravarti Thakura commented how Vedas is full of contradictions, that is why sometimes, it is enjoined that a person on the path of self-realisation should transcend the Vedic injunctions. However since the Vedas themselves originate from the Supreme Lord, one has to be expert in knowing what is acceptable and what is not acceptable from the Vedas.
