Isvara prabhu writes concerning the use of physical force in relation to

wives and unmarried daughters: "one has to be expert in knowing what is

acceptable and what is not acceptable from the **Vedas**.... Thus the

guidance of an **expert acarya** is required".

 

Bhakti Vikas Maharaj quotes the **vedic** evidence:

 

visnudharmottara purana 2.89.58 (Puskara to Sri Ramacandra): he should

fondle and beat at times in his own house, his wives and unmarried girls

 

And the **acharya** gave guidance:

Prabhupada sometimes quoted the poet Tulasi dasa about four things that can

be beaten. One can beat a drum, or a dog, or a woman, or a sudra.
