Any way I think we're beating(oops) {:-) a dead now. It was a pleasant

discussion on why Srila Prabhupada SOMETIMES quoted this verse and it started

out with the warning that we don't want to get into some big controversy. From

my point it sounds like everyone's speaking the same in different languages.

There was some good humor and interesting quotes. Now it's taking the wrong

turn.

And one last comment from me. I discussed the word taran with my Pujari from

Vrinda Kunda, Bhagwat Prasad, as old hindi is somewhat like Brijbhasha. Any way

he said it can also have the connotation of strict discipline which is

something Srila Prabhupada always discussed.

So let's leave it while we're still all friends.

There are different levels of "beating". When someone else distributes

more books, we say, "he beat me". That kind of "beating is OK. The strong

should protect the weak.

Srila Prabhupada also said the anyone who beats a child "should be hanged".
