Guest guest
Dear bh. Jan Prabhu. Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. > > But can it be > > possible, that there is some beating, that is not only present even > > in highly cultured circles, but is even considered beneficial and > > protective? And comes out of duty to protect nad educate, and is > I suggest you have the answer. When the beating is to help and protect > the dharma and with love, then it is good. On the other hand, loveless > beating is condemned as adharmic violence. Trying to get rid of both I > understand as part of a liberal/leftist agenda (stemming from > impersonal philosophies) to undermine family and ultimately dharma. > It is a fact, that any so-called progressive, non-traditional ideas are destroying family values. Protective violence is part of any succesful human society, including family. Anybody trying to undermine this traditional system by inventing something new, is actually causing greatest violence to all. This subject of beating is really not-important by itself, especially in Marathon time. But it becomes important because of it being a result of something else. It is not really a problem, that we discuss this things, is it. The thing became a problem, when some felt offended by such discusions. The problem is actually in purist idea, that some things need to be hidden and suppresed. That it is improper to discuss some social topics in public, because of this and that. Thats the real problem. Because in reality it doesn't make us really better, if we hide things, we just artificially look better. So why is there a need in ISKCON society to look better, than we are? All this PR and IC things.... Are we afraid, what people will think of us? That we are some religious fanatics? Well.... What is the next step? Re-editing our literatures, and throwing out everything, that could offend feelings of some external observer? It happened before, it is happening right now, and it will happen again. The question is, what will we do about it. And, yes, this debate has everything to do with Srila Prabhupada's books, since ideas to adjust his books for general public come from the same source as ideas, that some things are to be kept in silence. It is all based on our desired image in public, how nice we want to look. It is commercially important to look nice, otherwise nobody will buy what you sell. But limits, limits, where are limits? I think such discusion could bring some important conclusions. Is anybody else willing to invest his precious time in this direction? your servant Giri-nayaka das > In East Europe where I grew it was a kind of normal that kids were > sometimes beaten when they did something bad.
