ISKCON, New Delhi, celebrated Gita Jayanti in Dasna Jail, Ghaziabad (U.P.), on the 10th December 2005. The Superintendent of District Jail, Ghaziabad, Mr. Kesharwani, and other Senior Staff of the Jail were invited to join the program. There was a bhajan Sandhya to start with which was followed by a discourse on Bhagavad Gita As it is by His Grace Vrajendra Nandan Das, Vice President of ISKCON, New Delhi. He highlighted the importance of Bhagavad Gita and requested all to follow the instructions of Lord Krishna as contained therein which can change the lives of the sinful prisoners and make them thinking positively. He also said that by chanting Hare Krishna Mahamantra one can purify his heart and become happy. Thereafter, 500 copies of Bhagavad Gita As it is were distributed to the prisoners, the Superintendent of Jail and other staff members and also to the VIP guests who had been invited. At the time of kirtan, 3000 prisoners also joined the kirtan and danced in ecstacy. ISKCON, New Delhi, also celebrated Gita Jayanti festival in Tihar Jail on 12th December 2005. The function was attended by the Director General of Prisons and other Senior Members of the Prison Staff. The devotees did kirtan and bhajan and chanted Hare Krishna Maha Mantra. His Grace Vrajendra Nandan Prabhu, Director, ISKCON Communication India, New Delhi, presented the first copy of the Bhagavad Gita to the Director General of Prisons, Mr. R.P. Singh and the devotees distributed copies to all those who were present there. The Director General exhorted the prisoners to read the Bhagavad Gita and follow the instructions of Lord Krishna, so that they can become purified and make their path to come out of not only of this Jail but also the Jail of the entire world. He praised ISKCON for the wonderful work they are doing in changing the lives of the sinful prisoners. The program was covered by seven leading newspapers of Delhi.
