Yes of course you had a good situation where your parents were balanced, but there can be many who could misuse this license to use violence. Time and again we read in the Indian newspapers of teachers beating up the kids very badly . So the fact that it makes news shows that it is a rarity and considered an evil thing in India too. Actually in Srila Bhakti Vinoda Thakura's biography, we read about his memories of his early childhood where he and his brothers and cousins were filled with terror for his teacher who was a little cruel. So as kali yuga advances, there are more chances of people abusing children rather than beating with great self restraint for their benefit. There are other ways of punishing children.Using punishment and Rewards are a good way to train children.Normally people dont have the patience or dont think it necessary to be so careful in dealing with children. They take the easy option of hitting them, often expressing their frustration in being so ineffective in handling them. I think parents and teachers need to be trained first on how to deal with disobedience or deviant behavior. We need to understand child psychology more, and have better techniques of winning over children. If we do that, then that is love. Is it not?
