Then why is it being advertised, and presented in ISKCON centres? One cannot just advertise in iskcon some of his own business speculations, is it? Whatever is officially advertised, must be bonafide and recomended to all. > > "Normal"? Yes, it's normal: life is full of opportunities for the cheaters > and the cheated to get together.... Again, if this is so, why is it being advertised. Especially as vaisnava yoga! What is this vaisnava brand of yoga after all? If it is all wrong, why is it advertised? There must be something good about it, is it? Otherwise it would not be more and more officially presented in ISKCON temples, summer-camps, festivals... And especially the Radhadesh, the first world ISKCON university. There must be a good reason for devotees to integrate this atma-yoga in ISKCON. Anybody knows the benefits of this vaisnava brand of yoga? your servant Giri-nayaka das > > --------------------- > Text PAMHO:11002403 (99 lines) > Giri-nayaka (das) BVS (Ljubljana - SLO) > 21-Jan-06 10:50 +0100 > Defeating Atheism [69], > Granddisciples (of Srila Prabhupada) [7384] > yoga? > --------------------------- > Pamho. > > I was wondering..... Guest guest
Dear Vaisnavas, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada! Is it not common sense and mature spiritual understanding to appreciate initiatives that somehow or other (read: by hook or by crook) bring people closer to accepting Gaudia-vaisnava philosophy? I honestly cannot comprehend the resistance against anything that does directly, in large blinking letters, preach 4 regulative principles and 16 rounds. Because we know the goal to be pure devotional service does not mean we cannot gradually elevate people to this platform. I know nothing of this atma-yoga program, but having been preaching to "THE KARMIS" for 9 years I know by realization that personal practice combined with teaching the 'not yet devoted person' basic principles of moral, virtue and philosophy etc. will bring the person to Krishna consciousness in due course of time (at least for some people). And if that requires stretching your body i 27 directions on the floor... fine with me ) As long as the ultimate goal of the activity is Krsna consciousness then what is the problem? If I invite a fellow to my house promising a vegetarian cooking course, and at the same time I tell him first about nutrition, then about non-violence, then ethics, then the creator of ethics, and in the end I suggest that we offer the food to Krsna on the alter. Where is the problem. A sober person will not scream out: "Vegetarianism is for pigeons...we offer our foodstuffs to Krsna". No. Sometimes we have to take small steps. Similarly if I invite a fellow to my house to teach him yoga, and then i tell him first about good health, balance, control of the senses, consciousness beyond the senses, and consciousness not being a product of the material body but eternal...etc. - The point is that as long as Krsna is part of the plan, its all good! Cooking does not just means spicing the vegetables, it also means going to the market, carrying the bags etc. The key word is 'process'. For the record Srila Prabhupada told Harikesa prabhu that we should even be prepared to serve meat if it is necessary! I guess that underlines the point! To sum it up i do not think this is a discussion of whether prema- bhakti is the highest platform of existence, but rather a discussion of preaching methods. Ofcourse there are false philosophies within ISKCON, but I think we should be careful about criticizing someone before we understand what the purpose of the given activity is. Comments and corrections are very welcome! Your servant, Bhakta Daniel PS. I am not yet a member of Granddisciples (of Srila Prabhupada). Perhaps someone competent will add me to the conference?
