There was an interview in an edition of Life magazine from 1968 with Gopal Godse. Godse, the brother of the actual murderer, was jailed for 20 years for his part in the conspiracy. He had just got out in 1968 and Life published a lengthy interview with him. He also categorically stated that that Gandhiji didn't utter anything when he was shot. He simply gasped and fell to the ground dead. Godse was standing only four feet away from him at the moment and thus, like the personal attendant, he was in a position to know first hand what happened.
