Please refer the appeal letter below. Dear Sir/Madam, The Government of Maharashtra is out to create history by enforcing a 'revolutionary' law upon all devout / religious / theistic citizens of Maharashtra State. Having been given the deceptive name of 'Eradication of Black Magic and Aghori Practices Bill 2006', the proposed law is on the verge of being passed in the upper house of the State Assembly, which begins on the 13th March 2006. This Law criminalizes any kind of faith. How will it impact? 1. Any spiritual act involving expenditure of time or money must be proved on scientific basis else it will be punishable. (Note: No act can be performed without investing time or money.) (Section - 13) 2. Divine or supernatural power is termed as "So-called", which means 'fake' in legal terms. (Ref: Preamble of bill) 3. A Religious literature like the Vedic Scriptures, Upanishads, 18 Puranas, Biographies of Saints, the Holy Bible of Christians and the Quran of Islam would be henceforth questioned for their correctness on basis of "Modern Science" and could thus be banned. (Section 2(d) and Schedule item 2) 4. The Police would have many more uncontrolled powers to enter all holy places at any time and seize the idols, holy books etc. (Section 7) 5. The Offences punishable under this Act shall be cognizable and non-bailable. Punishment is max. 7 yrs and fine of Rs. 50000. (Section 3 (4)) Many legal experts have clarified that under the name of black magic; this law could actually threaten Faith in God and any Divine power. Most importantly, all the crimes listed under this law have already been covered under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). All this leads to suspicion in the Government's motive. More details about of the law have been published at http://www.hindujagruti.org/bill. Also a signature campaign has been started to oppose this talibanism. We urge you to have a look at the above URL and read the detailed Expert Analysis about the law and its implications on Religious and Theistic Freedom. With the noble aim of safe guarding the spiritual and religious freedom of the theistic section of the society we solicit your active support. What you can do? 1. Sign the online signature drive. 2. Send letters/emails to the Governor of Maharashtra and President. 3. Convey this message to your friends.
