Hare Krishna!

Many devotees are writting about Gulab Kali leaving her body these days.

Some are still saying that they are "praying for her speedy recovery"...

Well, my last post regarding this probably missed someone(s).

She is GONE last Saturday, 1-03-06, she was berried next day - Sunday,

2-03-06. And today (5-03-06) we had prasad distributed in the temple room on

her name - puri, sabji, rasagula and sweet rice.

Some photos of photos of devotees having last darsan of Gulab Kali, her

berial and prasad distribution are in attached file. This is the last batch

of photos on this.

This is to batch-answer some most typical mails we recieve these days:

>> before leaving Sridham Mayapur

>> I was thinking, how I can served mother Gulab, then I buy some banana I

>> feed her, after that I pay obeisances to her, I don’t know this was my

>> last pranam to her.

>> Is quite Sad when a great soul left this world .

>> She will always remain in the heart of all devotees in her pastime.

>>

>> Please forward some more information about mother Gulab Kali how she

>> left her body.

....................................................

Gulab Kali was a 27 year old elephant untill last Saturday. She was brought

to Mayapur when she was 5 years old by Bhavananda Prabhu. At that time there

was another elephant here, Sundar Kali. So, for a while they were together,

then Sundar Kali died at the age of 32.

Normal life span of an elephant is 100 years.

Gulab Kali got a foot infection during last Gaura Purnima festival, which at

first did not seem to be too bigger deal and curable. But it grew into a

bigger and bigger problem over the next month, other feet also started to

get infected.

On 30-02-06 at 2 AM she fell down in her shed not being able to tolerate the

pain of standing on hearting feet any more.

Once elephant lies down... they don't get up again. And she tried, she

really-really tried...

I can not write all the details. She left her body infront of my eyes and

this scene is still standing in my mind very strongly - her eyes that had

life a second ago and next second became empty...

There are devotees who put a lot of energy in trying to keep her alive. You

can contact some of them for details if you wish:

Ramadevi Mataji was with Gulab every day in her last days, she was dressing

her wounds and sores and was keeping busy trying to help Gulab in many ways

as well as trying to organise others who wanted to do something for Gulab.

Ganga Prabhu was constructing scafolds and arranging for turning Gulab over,

so she doesn't lie on one side all the time and has some sirculation going;

trying to lift her up vertically.

He was working SO hard till the very last moment of her life trying to keep

her alive. She left just as he practically finish the arrangements for

holding her in vertical position... he closed her eyes...

Nanda Krishna Prabhu, our Goshala vet doctor went through quite a lot of

strain and anexiety too during those days. He also had to do Gulab's autopsy

that Indian goverment requere for elephants (as much as for humans).

Gaura Hari Prabhu, the Goshala in-charge, despite being very busy, was

around Gulab a lot, to help with last arrangements and was very respectful

and caring for Gulab.

Nitai Prasad Prabhu is a GM, in-charge of central department under which

Gulab was supervised.

Many devotees came and helped and chanted and fanned Gulab...

Her berial place is right next to her shed, on another side of the path

running behind the shed, near Srila Prabhupada Samadhi.

The back wall had to be half demolished to get her body into the ground with

the help of a tractor and pullies.

Those devotees asking us to write details of her departure can contact

Ramadevi Mataji and Ganga Prabhu.

We will try after a little while to put together an article for Mayapur

Katha of devotee's expiriencies.

I made many hundreeds of photos of her last days. Why? - so it get recorded

for the future referencies and hopefully will contribute to improvements of

looking after the next elephant(s), such as giving her enough WATER to

drink, educate people looking after her what to do when elephant gets sick

and what food is best, etc.

I can't look at these photos now, I being in her empty shed today - it still

smels with her...

but will still include few photos in the attached file for you of her last

darsan, berial and prasad distribution in her memory.
