Dear devoties,

Please accept my most humblle obeisances,All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I would like to ask what is vegetarian salt and how much should be given to

cows daily?

I do not know what "vegetarian salt" is. Generally cows are given

mineral salt. I was not aware that there was any problem with that, but

maybe there is.

 

It's just a salt block in the pasture, and cows take it as they desire.

Just like with humans, being able to get salt when they want it,

encourages them to eat and drink more, so that way milk production also

increases.

 

But, in some parts of the world, devotees may not have a source of

mineral salt. Then they might want to use plain table salt.

 

I have a reproduction of an old cook book from George Washington's

time. The author states that she gives her cows one cup of salt a day

-- so that might give a hint of how much they will take. Large modern

cows might want even more.
