And readers should be cautious about PN Oak's speculations. Some may

be accurate and some definitely aren't. A case in point is his claim that

the name 'Australia' is a combination of the Sanskrit 'astra' and 'alaya'

meaning, according to Oak, that Australia is 'the place of weapons' i.e. he

says Australia was the place where the ksatriyas used to practice their

weaponry and that's why most of it is desert.

 

Unfortunately for Mr. Oak, a quick check of his English dictionary

would have informed him that 'austral' comes from the Latin 'ustralis' which

means 'of, or coming from the south.' Australia simply means 'the land in

the south (seas)'.

 

So be careful what you believe.
