Guest guest
In Iskcon, the word "grains" is used in a very specific & usually incorrect sense. The sanskrit word "anna" - which is so commonly misinterpreted to refer to those foods which must absolutely be abstained from on Ekadasis - is simply a general word which refers to foods that all living entities naturally consume to survive. For humans, those foods are fruits, vegetables, RICE, wheat, legumes, (dal, Black beans, Garbanzo beans, (also called chickpeas), Kidney beans, (also called Mexican red beans), Lentils, Navy beans, Pinto beans,), milk, etc. For tigers, 'anna' is meat. For cows & elephants 'anna' is grasses, leaves etc. "Just like Ekädasé day—there is no eating sumptuously. Simply you take little fruits and flowers. Try to avoid that also. You don't take even water. That is really ekädasé. But because we cannot do it—in the Kali-yuga the time is different—therefore we are allowed to take little fruit and milk, which is called anukalpa."
