Guest guest
Dear All, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. The following is a letter sent to me from a devotee I work closely with in Mauritius. He is proposing international strategy Ideas. And he seems ready to take it up and assist in its coordination. Mr. Chairman, IC people, where do we go from here? With affectionate regards, BB Govinda Swami ............................................................................. Dear Maharaja, Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. Sorry, I could not have access to my mail earlier and I can not get through on your cell in India. If possible, please provide me with another number where I can contact your holiness. I'll work on the letter with some lawyers and some contacts from amnesty + Human Rights division in Mauritius. I have already contacted my friends in at the MBC to request the BBC and CNN for their intervention. At PR level, we have also contacted the major hindu socio-religious organizations in Mauritius for a common petition and appeal to the Indian High Commissioner in Mauritius as well as the Prime Minister and the minister of foreign affairs. We need to tactfully urge them to make this matter international and get the Human Rights Commission as well as Amnesty International involved in there. Maharaja, I have been giving some further thoughts on the situation and I think that we need to have a more strategic approach to this situation. Even though they are trying to forcefully take the land from us, we will need to fight in a more collegial manner and even though they do forcefully confiscate the property, we will have to fight back till we get it back from them including damages and interests. I would suggest the following: 1. ISKCON and all its temples and centres worldwide should be involved at different levels but I think that ISKCON Communications (IC) has got a VERY IMPORTANT role to play in this situation as a main coordinator. IC should prepare a petition template (legally vetted) and contact all temples and centres worldwide and ensures that the letter is faxed/emailed to the Human Rights Commission and copied to Secretary General of the UN, Amnesty International, US President, Prime Minister of India, Prime Minister of UK and the President of the Rep of Kazaksthan. 2. In parallel, request all temples and centres to contact other socio-religious orgs or NGO's of their respective countries to send a letter the same authorities mentioned above a gesture of support to ISKCON. 3. A serious and successful accept has to be made to get the major Hindu organizations in USA, UK and France on board. IC Europe (ICE) can definitely work on that. This will immediately give the situation an international exposure and we can then force the Government of India to get involved in this situation and act accordingly. 4. Apart from the Human Rights Commission, the hindu lobby from those countries would also help raise the awareness and pressure on the different authorities mentioned above and governments through the press including the UN. 5. Press communiqués and international channels could be approached to further cover the situation. Maharaja, if you think that the above line of action sounds ok, I'm ready to discuss this further with IC and ICE. your servant, shateeaum
