Guest guest
Dear Laksmi Nrsinghadeva Prabhu. Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada. You explanation is very inspiring to me, because it needs no compromises, and fits well on both SB and SP explanations. Even more, it connects Srila Prabhupada's explanation even more with Srimad Bhagavatam. Thank you. > > > So assuming that the Phythogoras theorem (right angle triangle) is > applicable in this situation, we can find the point to point distance > from base of the bhumandala to the centre of the Sun globe to be > 15750300 yojanas. This could also well correspond to 93.000.000 miles of modern measurement, which was used by Srila Prabhupada as a proof, that moon is too far. Taking 8 miles per yojana, this gives distance of 15750300 x 8 = 126.002.400 miles. This is very similar to modern measuring. And taking another yojana measure of 5 miles (as in Surya siddhanta) this distance is 78.751.500 miles. So 93.000.000 miles, which was used by Srila Prabhupada, goes well with both measures for yojana. Maybe thats why Srila Prabhupada accepted the modern dimension in his statements. > > But the Bhagavatam 5th canto doesn't give much information about the > nature of orbit of the Moon around the Mount Meru. The only information > we have is it rotates on a plane that is 200,000 yojanas above the > Bhumandala plane. Thats exactly what SP is saying, that the moon is so far away, that they could never reach it in 4 days. > > So since we don't have the necessary information to verify this, we > should take shelter of the acaryas especially our Founder Acarya who > consistently maintained Moon is farther than the Sun. Thank you for your explanation. > > And also SB 5.24.2 points out that the moon is twice as large as the > Sun. > "The sun globe, which is a source of heat, extends for 10,000 yojanas > [80,000 miles]. The moon extends for 20,000 yojanas [160,000 miles], and > Rähu extends for 30,000 yojanas [240,000 miles]." > > And from our normal human perspective we can see that Moon looks smaller > than the Sun if not bigger. This goes well with the Bhagavatam > perspective that the Moon is bigger and farther than the Sun. This was > also pointed out by Madhudvisa Prabhu. > > Hope this helps. Let me know if I got something wrong. > Thank you. Right or wrong, who knows. But it sure explains why Srila Prabhupada said, that moon is farther than the sun, and it explains, that SP doesn't contradict SB. It is nectarean explanation. Sadaputa prabhu was not able to come up with such explanation. ys gnd
