My understanding is that the term daru brahma (not "brahmaan") is a general term for Lord Jagannath and not specifically used about Him worshiped by Himself. > I once heard a bengali say Jagannatha was refered to as "dadhi baman" (the > dwarf who steals yoghurt?) maybe I misheard it (if he meant to say "daru > brahman". Dadhi baaman is a common term in Orissa for Jagannath alone. I never could get a clear explanation of the origin of the term, and was only told that dadhi is an auspicious substance -- whatever value that has! And the Lord is certainly dwarf-like in appearance. No connection was ever made to makhan chor lila, that I know about. And I certainly don't know that much!
