Guest guest
Dear Hrimati what excellent information. I have wondered why the ISKCON goshalla does not give oxen on loan to the local farmers. When the oxen are old or are infirmed or die then they would be returned to the ISKCON goshalla (yes even the dead ones) which will remain the sole owner. This would give good work to the oxen and may even adjust the purpose of breeding cows from milk to the acquisition of oxen. Even if the family who loaned the oxen gave nothing it would still be better than the current situation. Perhaps they could give some rice, or some rice straw in payment. Obviously this is a seed idea and all the required registration, records and checking procedures would have to be sorted out. It is interesting that you are considering growing rice just for the straw. I find myself thinking a similar thing sometimes about growing extra wheat, barley and oats so we are self reliant on our own straw. There would be far more grains that the temple would need. ys syam
