Guest guest
> Let me put the question differently. Is the moon 95,000,000 miles away > from earth? yes. it is described in SB. "The sun is supposed to be 93,000,000 miles above the surface of the earth, and from the ®r…mad-Bh€gavatam we understand that the moon is 1,600,000 miles above the sun. Therefore the distance between the earth and the moon would be about 95,000,000 miles. ...." You see, earth is Bharata Varsa, southern part of Jambudvipa. Moon is exactly 95.000.000 miles above the surface of the earth. The phrase "above the surface of the earth" implies, that earth is flat. Here we are talking of vertical dimensions. Above! But radial dimensions are something different. But Prabhupada is speaking here of vertical dimensions. His point is, that moon is too far, to be really reached in 4 days. You need to travel really far, to reach real moon. It is even above the sun. How can you speak of above, if your dimensions are radial? Sun is not above the moon in radial coordinates. Also, as I said, Bharata-varsa is on Jambudvipa, and moon is posited directly above, at a height of 95.000.000 moiles. But, sice it is directly above Jambudvipa, vertical and radial dimensions are the same. But for sun, vertical and radial dimensions are quite different, because it is lower than moon, but faaaaar away from Jambudvipa. It is just geometry... I was very good in geometry on university. All best grades, poor me! Anyway, at least i can picture in my mind this moon subject easily. ys gnd
