Mangalore: Ancient Gold Coin Unearthed in Temple

Mangalore, May 7: The Astabandha Brahmakalashotav at Delampady  

Mahalingeshwar Temper near Angadymogru in Puthige panchayat,  

Kasargod has hit a treasure for the temple. It was during these  

celebrations that a wealth of an ancient coin weighing one-and-half  

pound was recovered at the temple.  

The coin was unearthed during the Vedic rites. The coin has Sanskrit  

script and has Shiva and Parvati engraved on the other side.  

According to the Archeology department, the coin was minted during  

the rule of Ikkeri Dynasty.(circa 1500 AD)
