Khaz Update from Delhi

Yesterday, May 3,2006, Mahamantra and I had a meeting with the Kazakh

Ambassador to India. He was basically a polite person and gave us about two

hours.

 

He listened to our concerns and tried his best to clear themselves from

the comments of Religious Persecution.

 

He clearly made his point that in other areas of Kaz we exist freely. Only

at the farm there are problems. Thus his impression is that it is unfair to

portray a picture that we are being persecuted.

 

But I clearly made the point that the local administration near the farm

is subject to the laws of the Republic of Kazakhstan. And, if there is a

problem with us being there, don't destroy us, but correct the problem.

 

He attempted to make a deal by stating that if there will be no more bad

press then he would work diligently to find a solution to the situation.

 

Consequently, throughout the day in press interviews I capitalised on the

fact that the Kazakh Ambassador had given his strong assurances that he

would personally work on a solution to the situation.

 

Vrajendranandan Prabhu was great yesterday by organising the press and

different TV Channels to come for interviews. That should be hitting the

press this morning.

 

One disturbing bit of news is that the Executors from the Karasai Rayon

came to the farm yesterday and coerced the temple president into signing a

document relating to the destruction of the houses.

 

He has been ill for the past few weeks and had been up all night as his wife

was having a child. Thus he was basically in an incoherent state.

 

We have our advocates on the situation and I will inform all others how the

damage control has taken place.

 

Please keep up all of your efforts. The more pressure you place will make

the people at the top in Kazkhstan call off the people who are harassing us

so terribly.
