Guest guest
Hi, I am a software engineer by profession and I am very interested in building an astrology software. Do any of you know of any open source available to calculate - natal chart - various Dasha bhuktis - Ashtakavarga - Shadbalas - yogas regards, Uma
Guest guest
Hello I am really not qualified to answer this, but here goes anyway: Re Open Source Astro Code, you can get all the Western Stuff off the web. However, nobody to my knowledge has open sourced any Vedic Code. I am not going to anytime soon personally (open source mine that is- too embarrassing-spaghetti!). -- Das Goravani, Pres. Guest guest
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi Aditya-- I'm a developer too. I'm not aware of any comprehensive Vedic stuff that has been open-sourced, but a really full-featured Western product which is open-sourced is Walter Pullen's Astrolog at www.astrolog.org. Astrolog will do a Vedic natal chart, though. Here's a neat feature of Astrolog--you can have it plot the geocentric motion of the planets as they appeaar to revolve around the earth; it looks like a Spirograph drawing after a while ;-). The dashas and vargas are of course straightforward to calculate once you've done the natal work, so that's no sweat; the strengths are slightly more complicated, and I guess the combinations would be the most tedious of all the things on your list. If you're planning on doing transit searches, I would advise using an ephemeris such as what comes with Astrolog and perhaps doing a cubic spline interpolation or some such, since recalculating each of the planetary positions so often will just murder you on the performance. Here's a great reference you might find useful: Astronomical Algorithms, by Jean Meeus, ISBN 0-943396-35-2. Good luck! Sounds like you're in for some entertaining evenings! jpd - Aditya Kotturu <adityauma gjlist <gjlist > Thursday, May 04, 2000 4:35 PM [gjlist] Open source on Astrology ? >Hi, > >I am a software engineer by profession and I am very interested in >building an astrology software. > >Do any of you know of any open source available to calculate > >- natal chart >- various Dasha bhuktis >- Ashtakavarga >- Shadbalas >- yogas > >regards, >Uma > > >------ >Get your money connected @ OnMoney.com - the first Web site that lets >you see and manage all of your finances all in one place. >http://click./1/3012/0/_/913692/_/957476050/ >------ > > >gjlist- > > > > -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: PGP Personal Privacy 6.0.2 iQA/AwUBORHydxqkT4oaii17EQLBrQCeNEV7vd8gDyWQRTcSDccZrjP1SuIAoNpU wi2LIomod89bpahRaOrF/uNU =Xtke -----END PGP SIGNATURE-----
