Guest guest
Hi, Could anyone recommend me a good book (or more) on manually calculating charts? A friend vaguely recalled that she had seen something by BV Raman on the subject. I also remember a mail from Das Goravani in which he described how he started by manual calculation ... anything thanks, vesco
Guest guest
I am a western astrologer...but time is time. I first learned to calculate by hand...I began my studies in 1986 before the computer was affordable to me...it all needs to be broken down into seconds...every degree is one whole minute...every minute has 60 seconds to it...the planets move a certain distance in a months time (by transit)...you calculate that to be a percentage of a whole...that, if the planet moved this much in 24 hours...then take a fraction of that to see how much it moved in one hour (60 minutes...60 seconds in a minute...) that is how one comes up with, say...their Moon is 26.31 of Aries. All the planets are calculated like that....as are progressions of time. A good book for the calculations of basic cycles of greater return can be found at the American Federation of Astrologers. They can be reached at 1-888-301-7630 and at www.astrologers.com, or their e-mail at AFA. You can have a catalogue of books sent to you; or a telephone operator can tell you which book exactly you need or you can e-mail the same question to them that you posted here in the list and wait for a recomendation of titles they carry. It's very simple once you calculate the greater cycles of return for the outer planets...ie., Jupiter takes 12 years to completely circle the zodiac...Uranus..84 years...etc. I believe Vedic Astrology differs in that they use a system of differing calculations according to the procession (involving approx 23 degrees difference) and the western system, which most uses sideral calculations. I think that both are very important when used as a whole...because there is no escaping the fact that we do go thru particular time periods (dashas) to the year...and we do have cycles of greater return where karmic unfolding is concerned. But as far as timing of important life changing evolutionary pivot points in the life theme...core central issues to that souls incarnational purpose, I feel that from watching things unfold for the last 14 years that transits and progressions in the western chart are also invaluable. We do have Saturn returns and we do have the halfway marker of Uranus in the cycle...and we do have Chiron returns that assist in healing the original spiritual wound (Why we ALL were born...and the central spiritual theme!) I have come to the conclusion that the two combined make a very workable model for timing karmic unfolding...wherever the soul of that individual needs to go next to precipitate the experiences that will lead to the eventual growth of that person. The ego is the body's consciousness, and the psychic self is the souls consciousness... Much rich success!!! Guest guest
There is an excellent book on mathematical calculations (manual working of charts) and on astronomy. This Book is by Mr. Deepak Kapoor. This has got solved examples too to help the beginners. Astrology for the Beginners is a book by Dr. B.V. Raman. It gives the method but has no examples. Hope it helps.
