Guest guest
The US is trying to choose a new leader. Here some thoughts on the subject. Only recently did I hear from Natabara how most probably America got its name! Most school books say that it was given that name by Amerigo Vespucci, who - not Columbus - actually landed on the continent and went across to the Pacific coast. This is BS. Vespucci was actually called Alberico! The name should have been Alberica. But that too is nonsense. Places are named after the surname, not the first, otherwise identification of discoverer or honoured person is impossible. Cabot, Cook, Columbia, Rhodesia, Pennsylvania etc. are examples. Not Cape John, James Islands, Cristobalia, Cecilia, Williaminia! BTW the name Amerigo appeared for the first time 80 years after the continent got its name, by a misprint in a German book! To quote Natabara: " Anyway, when i was studying Philosophy at the Mexico University in 1972, i read that when the Spaniards were exploring the Caribean coast, they used to see boats faster than theirs (they never catch them) and later dissapeared together with the "white" wizards who knew astrologically that their time was over and went into hidden. When asking the local Indians about the name of their land they replied "Ameriqua" (pronounce the u) which meant "in the country of the winds" (en el pais de los vientos)....." The Land of Tornadoes! Free as the wind was the original ideal, but become meanwhile also "windy"! The land of infinite opportunities has failed in one thing: to guarantee a truly safe and acceptable existence for ALL its citizens. Initiative is honoured, but the elbow decides - and the weak are trampled down. The state depends on the citizens, but forgets that the people depend on the state, and that they founded the state to be a neutral but Reliable protector. I wish that Al Gore wins!!!!! Both Americans and the world will profit. If Bush wins, Gawdhelp all! December seems to be tough time for Gore, when Pluto is active against him - violence, scandal? Pray for him - that evil machinations do not hurt him. Bush, like Nixon and Lyndon Johnson - and perhaps Reagan - can resort to foul means, when fairplay fails! Roosevelt, Kennedy and Carter were in a different class, with Truman, who had the hardest job! They thought of the people, not just making the US the most powerful nation on the earth...... IMHO! Before the US tries to create peace in Israel or elsewhere, the US Federal State and people should set an example. Appealing for the rights and tolerance of Black Citizens is only lip-service. Are black citizens openly honored? Statues put up, birthdays celebrated, contributions praised? Are streets and squares named after them? Is the nation proud of its black citizens? Here in Germany the same problem exists and at present much discussed. After the war there was a need for labourers. People from Turkey, Greece, Italy, Spain etc. were recruited and invited to come and help build up the country. Now they and their descendants are suddenly unwelcome! We are trying here desperately to "normalize" the situation ....... The American Blacks were kidnapped and forced to work. This was no less terrible than the German Holocaust! All the southern states are indebted to the blacks for their wealth! It is time the American people pay their debts to the blacks and the Amerindianns! Gore and people like him may help to do this, but Bush will not! Mani PS. Das, please forgive this political letter on the list. My main aim was to request people to pray for Gore!
