Guest guest
Yesterday there were mainly two discussions, Mani's focus on names, and the chaps chart having a hard time. The gentleman is involved in high tech like me. It's very brain straining. I've been through my own problems with that. Kava Kava is basically relaxing, and makes my depressive symptoms worse, personally. So I agree that only with real knowledge and caution, should herbs and other medicines be prescribed or taken. I went through trying many things, including ayurvedic rasayanas. For awhile, Ephedra was a boost, but that's very Pitta increasing, and is a very effective speed basically. It taxes the adrenal. Actually I needed something altogether different than what I thought I needed. Like when we want coffee, we may actually need rest, like that. So sometimes fixes make problems worse. Personally I have found those things which directly manipulate the Seratonin and Norpenephorin etc. to be the only really helpful things at this time. (ie Modern Anti Depressent Drugs) (my spellings may be wrong on those two words). Years of dealing with complex programming I think, is very taxing on the brain. I think our high tech society, and high tech jobs, are very demanding, and a new thing in human society. We have not long had these complex types of careers being held by so many people, while all along, very often these days we find diets that are less and less rich in natural foods. So the strains of the modern way I think are resulting in depleted people. - As far as names go, this is a pretty external discussion. External things aren't very deep. Sure, there's links between us and our first name or names from our family, but sometimes we want to altogether drop those connections. Differing from Mani's experience and thoughts, the Bengali Vaisnava way is to totally drop the previous name and use only the new name, so certainly not all of India agrees on this. Our idea is that you get a new start, a new identity, and forget your past karma. That also makes sense and is liberating. Many people in the West grew up in incredibly dirty, disfunctional, karmicly thick terrible environments, and deliberately wish to part with that past as much as possible. That's also real and laudible. Adopting a new blissful name is their intent, completely. My last name meant "meat" in German (Wurst). There's no way I want a connection to that name. Nein Danke. And even "Richard", has connection to "Royal", which is not exactly where I want to vibrate either. Das means "servant", and is much more what I'm into. Raghunandan is a name of Lord Ram, also more dear to me than Richard or Wurst, or "Dick", which was my nickname. No thanks. - A more interesting topic would be is fire spiritual? I propose that the the main impulses of the fire signs and planets push us in directions that are hard to surrender. Determination, idealism, optimism, power, ego, and so on, are things which die out, whereas Saturn takes over later in life more and more. Surrender is spiritual, supplication, service, steadiness, not ego, not fire. Is this true? What then changes over time in a fire person? - Did you know that the first outer planet is twice as far away as Saturn. Like Saturn is roughly 900 million miles away, and Uranas about double that, and the next outer add it again, and the next one add it again, putting pluto like 4 times as far away as Saturn. Maybe that's why they didn't use them in yester yore? Maybe they were more interested in shorter term things, events, decisions, etc., rather than the general overall personality trait effects? - And for the person who said they wished to follow Parasharas teachings, VERY GOOD. Parashara's son was Vyas, who wrote everything according to the books themselves, and so from Parashara came so much. To care about our souls while living in the body, to know that there is divine plan, to become humble servants, Vishnu Bhaktas, that is Parashara's main teachings. I consider myself to be a follower of Parashara Muni, and his family members. Parashara's Grandson spoke the Bhagavatam (Sukadev Goswami). So the Vaisnava Vedic lineage is completely Parashara's. - I hear alot of what Mani says. It's a beautiful vision on one side, but there is also alot of pain in it, at least that I am hearing anyway. There are many ways to see things, including Divinity. None of us here are there, that's why we're here! Partial beauty we have it seems. Getting there. I know I am still dependent on others, and things. By the way Mani, I don't dislike your speaking. You obviously need to speak. I don't read it all either though, so if you're being weird, I wouldn't know it. Yikes! I know that we suffer alot in life, especially at some times more than others. I know the pain of lonliness, disease, and death. These things are, needless to say, incredibly hard on all of us. At these times, we need things badly, different things, as individuals. I don't dislike anyone for any of their needs or decisions about needs. I understand and have compassion, moreso than ever as I age more and more, and experience my own stuff more and more. Different approaches are there for spiritual comfort as well. Whatever works for one is what they need to focus on, and talk about perhaps. So be it. - One interesting point: I got almost no responses about Jaimini. What does it mean? (no need to answer that). Speaking of Ammachi, I saw her chart. Interesting. Now that's one to discuss.
