There is a misunderstanding going around the Hare Krishna movement to the

effect that astrology doesn't affect the devotees because the guru accepts

all of their karma.

 

The following text from 1.12.12 of the Bhagavat Purana doesn't support this

idea. Rather, it seems that astrological configurations are indicative of

the birth of pious souls and great devotees:

 

 

Text 12:

 

Thereupon, when all the good signs of the zodiac gradually evolved, the heir

apparent of Pându, who would be exactly like him in prowess took birth.

Big deal! This is the fundamental mistake of the Christian faith: that

Christ takes on the karma or sins of all devotees. The meaning is:

God is prepared to clear up the mess, if we honestly regret our sins and

undertake not to repeat them. If ISKCON people start believing this, they are

only getting back to what they ran away from. May Krishna help them, he is

certainly laughing at them! I am NOT referring to the avatar Krishna, son of

Vasudeva and Devaki, BUT to VASUDEVA KRISHNA, the dark, unfathomable Father of

all Beings!

 

Astrology "affects" nobody as a subject of study. The planets are part of a

clock and calendar. We don´t have to doubt or discuss! Things happen as a

resultant of our efforts and the cosmic forces:

"Some are born great, others become great, yet others have greatness thrust upon

them ......" - Shakespeare

 

"Caesar! beware of the ides of March!" - Shakespeare
