If you note that each full round of Yogini dasas is 36 years, it can easily be seen that Yogini is best used as an Ayur (longevity) dasa, as 36 demarcates the first term of life (Alpayu), then next 36 = Madhyayu (middle term), and the latter third (Purnayu), has to do with long life. Adding all together, you get a Paramayus (full life term) of 108, which is the same as most other longevity dasas, such as Shoola, Sthira, Brahma, Navamsa dasas, etc. Anyway, you will find that the influence of Yoginis during certain periods of life will be very poignant in accordance with the unfolding of karmas related to those Yoginis, as well as whatever chart factors are related to them, but will be destructive (i.e. life-threatening), if they operate during the term of longevity which should bring death. You can thus use it as a Phalita (karmic unfoldment) dasa, as well as Ayur dasa, which has to do with longevity. Another point is, that the Yogini dasas are much shorter than their Vimsottari counterparts, and thus minor errors in birth time, are going to influence the accuracy of the dasas much less. This is because the arc of one naksatra, which determines the first dasa -- 13:20 degrees - is proportioned out to dasas which are shorter in length. Following are the planetary correspondences, as well as dasa year lengths, to Yoginis as listed above: Mangala: Moon (1 year dasa length) Pingala: Sun (2 years) Dhanya: Jupiter (3 years) Brahmari: Mars (4 years) Bhadra: Mercury (5 years) Ulka: Saturn (6 years) Siddha: Venus (7 years) Sankata: Rahu (8 years) An excellent book on Yogini dasa is available, called "Applications of Yogini Dasha", by Rajeev Jhanji and N.K. Sharma. Best wishes, Robert ===================================== Robert A. Koch, Vedic Astrologer 760 NW Broken Arrow Rd. Guest guest
Thanks Robert for explaining it so nicely. Yogini is a real effective tool used by astrologers from hilly areas of India and the book you mention is a real excellent one. But whenever someone talks of this book, I am reminded of my excellent friend, N.K. Sharma, co-author of this book, a brilliant astrologer, who is no longer with us. May god grant peace to his soul.
