I think it's the 1/60th divisional chart--Shastiamsha--quote from GJ's

software: "Used in very fine tuning of predictions and judgment, it's suble

impact is felt in the cases of twins born just minutes apart. the special

deities ruling these divisions have important sway on the individual." You

want your planets in a benefic shastiamsa. Some books give some interesting

prediction details based on 'em.

Dear List Members,

Can someone enlighten me as to what the Shastiamasha is and how it

is determined for each planet. For instance, Goravani Jyotish say's this

of my debilitated Mars, "The Shastiamsha is Deva which means "Divine" and

is considered a benefic one". How is this determined and how would you

use this information in general natal chart interpretation? Does this

take a bit of an edge off of a challenged planet like my debilitated

Mars? I know that Shastiamasha is one of the Harmonic Charts, but other

than this I'm ignorant. I appreciate any insights you can offer.

Namaste, Jeff

Hi Jeff,

The book is called Constellational Astrology According to the Hindu

System by Robert De Luce. It's not just shastiamsas, but it has some

interesting stuff. If you get a copy of this book, they left out pages

181-182 on this one--would you let me know what it says there? I really

love going through some of these old books; my teenage son and his friends

ask me for "cool names" from De Luce's book in particular for their

characters in role-playing games. Mangal and Raaksha for warriors, and so

forth. Got them interested in the Vedic stuff in a whole new way.

Dear Robin,

If the book - and esp. chapter on shashtiamsa -is based on De Luce´s

"experience", it is very puzzling: his ayanamsa is about 4 degrees greater than

Lahiri!
