The Ashkhavedamsa(D-45) shows Karma inherited from ones fathers lineage. The Shastiamsa(D-60) shows ones own inherited karma from past births. The Shastiamsa is the doorway to your past life, it will show you the reasons for your fortune/suffering in this birth, and can also give you valuable clues to whatever events happened in the past birth. Lets say you tend to be very nervous and always percieve yourself as very fragile. Well your nervousness and fragility, would be seen in D-27(strengths and weaknesses). And the reason for your nervousness and fragility could be due to a very severe death! This could be due to Saturn debilitated in 3rd from Arudha Lagna, as this no doubt would show that the death caused the nervousness. Best wishes, Visti.
