Hello Members ,

Bhava Lagna to which Visti is referring ,is among one of the Ascendant referred

by Jamini in his Jamini Sutra. Others are Hora Lagna, Varanda Lagna and Haiku

Lagna.

In general terms Bhava means House, the house used in Vedic are Porphyr's system

in this , 1st we obtain Ascendant and MC and then the two other cardinal points

are derived that is 7th house and 4rth house are derived therefrom by adding 6

signs to the Ascendant and MC. For calculating other houses mid points ,

difference between MC and Ascendant divided by 3 and added in MC will give 11th

house mid point , deducting it from ascendant will give 12th house mid point.

In western Ascendant is referred as starting point , whereas in Vedic same is

mid point. There are other House systems some are :

Placidus or Semiarc system (used in KP and western astrology)

Regomontanus System

Campanus system.

Jamini methods does not go in House calculations as is done in Parashari or

western astrology.

Bhava Lagna count begins from Sun or Ascendant according if Ascendant is odd or

even.

it increase by one sign in 5 Ghati.

Suppose one is born in Cancer Ascendant after 23 Ghati of Sun Rise (1 ghati = 24

minutes)

Divide 23 by 5 = 4.6 quotient = 4 ; remainder = 0.6

Because Ascendant is Even , counting 5th from the rising Ascendant we get

Scorpio as the Bhava Lagna. Multiply the remainder by 30 we get 18 degrees as

the exact longitude of the Bhava Lagna.

In the event of Odd Ascendant count will be from Sun sign.

This Bhava lagna is much different from the Houses .

Bhava Lagna is used to find various Raja Yoga mentioned in Jamini.

Where as House calculations gives the true picture of, Planet i.e. if the

planet visible in the Rashi of ascendant is in the same House or not.

It will clear,

Inder Jit Sahni.

Dear Visty,

Namaskaar,

You wrote,

<Jaimini doesn't explain the Bhava Lagnas, he refers to other texts to find

this.>

Must be true , i read the formula in BV Raman book , describing various Lagna.<

<Which stanza is this>

It was in my memory that a planet aspecting three Ascendants prescribed by

Jamini produce a King. On checking it I found that the Ascendent so referred are

different than Bhava Lagna.

In Sutra 24 reference has been made to Hora, Ghatika and Janma.

In Sutra 25th he refer to Chander Lagna, Navmasa Lagna and Drekana Lagna and the

7th house from them.in Sutra 26 and 27th he again refers to various Lagna's.

Practically I do not apply Jamini in my day to day life for Astrological

predictions. My study of Jamini is very Casual.

It is development of some initial principals .

As you are studying and applying it , explain the various Lagna's and their

application as taught by Jamini Sutras to the list.

Whereas I make application of Cusp charts daily in Horary and Natal with

Vishmotary Dasha with accuracy as high as more than 90%.

With Love,

Inder Jit sahni
