But have patience, dear boy, i have to find a way of simplifying the mess that the author has made of it. He was apparently very knowledgeable, but not very intelligent, and also seems to have shared the 19th century love for complicating things. But I guess he had a problem anyhow: calculating sunrise and sunrise charts was the usual practice, but few could do it. So his book is full of such info, but he seems to have forgotten the logic of his own method as far as rectification was concerned, which was the masin theme of the book! Couldn´t see the wood for the trees. I´ll do my best. My joy is that after years of trying in vain to fit his info into facts, I read his theory again and could find the bug! This method is not all that certain: you still have to decide whether you correct forwards or backwards, but it gives (only) two or sometimes three choices the play with. GOLDEN RULE: IN TRYING TO RECTIFY DO NOT RECTUMIFY! regards Mani
