Dear Das,

I actually don't know what the Vedic criminal justice system would do to a

murderer 125 times over. Maybe you could enlighten us.

Respectfully,

Karen

Dear Karen, Raghu and others,

How many times did Arjuna kill? The laws of Manu, impressive as they are,

reflect a certain resignation. Don´t ask me to quote, but I just read to gather

info, not index it! No law is correct unless it brings justice at the relevant

period. So "vedic justice" does not apply to our society, except in principle.

In vedic times a man was allowed to have many wives, no modern state allows it

today. But illegitimate birth was not a stigma in the old days - not even in

medieval Europe, where the bastard child of a king had a coat of arms with the

"Bar sinister", a diagonal black stripe from left to right corners, denoting

illegitimacy!

In Germany there has been only one person with a real sense of humour (as far

as i know) - the cabarettist Dieter Hillebrand. Mario simmel of Austria is

another exception in the teutonic scene.

Dieter once brought up the subject: the shock on the electric chair lasts ONLY

one minute. So Dieter set the clock and said, "let us wait for the 1 minute to

pass. " There were 60 seconds in that one minute, and each of them was eternity!

Try it!

If a person killed wantonly once or 125 times is irrelevent: society has to

protect itself, BUT has no right to kill. Life-long incarceration is the only

answer - but if the prisoner wants to die and escape, give him cyanide or

whwtever is less painful.

regards

Mani

PS: Hillebrand also once said, after dealing with most miserable conditions in

Africa: I can believe that there is a life after death. But is there a life

before death?
