Lo and behold, on page 381 of the first edition, I ran across a comment about karakas for older brothers: " although there is no karaka as such for elder brothers, Mars who is the karaka for brothers according to Vaidyanath Dikshitar and other classical writers can also be considered for the 11th house." Jupiter is a masculine planet, and a planet of maturity, so I guess that Jupiter can often be found indicating an older brother in a horoscope, but that doesn't mean that he is the karaka per se.
