Guest guest
An important postscript to my previous post is that (in the charts I mentioned) Jupiter is aspecting the ascendant... For GH from 9th; for myself from 7th and for my husband from 5th house of mind. It would be a mistake to give the same interpretation for all Libra, Cancer and Capricorn natives. Each chart is unique in how the planets are expressed, and of course conjunction/aspects of other planets bring added influence/modification to the interpretation. This is an example of why it's as much a mistake to blindly accept the interpretation of scripture as it is to blindly accept mine...every horoscope is unique! Guest guest
Dear All I am always struck when someone places a message asking if they will be happy. My first response is that being happy is up to the individual, being miserable is also a choice. Still, the placement of the Moon by nakshatra or simply by aspect or being hemmed in between difficult planets often indicates a person who is not "happy." As astrologers or jyotishis, do you look at the chart and answer, "you will never be happy." Do you look and ask "have you ever been happy?" in the case of the latter, perhaps a SAturn transit is influencing at the time. Or, do you help the client see how his or her perceptions (Moon) influence happiness or misery? I guess what I am asking is a discussion on is this. Are perceptions limited by the chart or can a person learn to work well within the confines of difficult transits and aspects? I have seen folks who would never consider themselve happy with very easy lives and folks who would never presume that happiness is the responsibility of anyone but themselves. Perhaps this is a cultural difference....or is it the difference of age and wisdom? Hoping for discussion cynthia
Guest guest
Hi Cynthia, I thought I would share my feelings with you :-) You are right that it depends a lot on he native itself. Astrologically, I would see the 4th house and Lord, Moon, 4th from Moon. I would see the 9th lord and Sani also. This is the general approach, this would decide how person "take" the sorrows... (The thing you mentioned that it depends on the native), these bhavas and planets being good indicates he or she can adjust himself or herself easily and thus become comparatively happy. I would also see the position of 6th and 8th lords and their strengths. Imp to keep in mind that there is nothing called 'ever happiness' but it is a matter of the flow of time so periods and transits are helpful. If the major period of life passes with a malefic maha dasha, (Say 20 yrs Ve maha dasha) then it would effect the native's life greatly, and looking him/her having an unhappy life. Regards,Tanvir PS. To judge happiness, it is good to have an overall look to all houses esp 1st, 7th, 2nd, 10th, 5th, 9th etc - if any of these are seriously troubled then the happiness would be hampered surely - most of the times unhappiness comes from these houses you know. Just my two cents :-))) What can not happen, can never happen.Which is mine, is forever mine. Guest guest
Happiness is a frame of mind. The strength of Moon (mind) helps us to be happy. The placement of Moon shows the things (related to that house) that make us happy. No one can be always happy, but if we choose to be happy we can, by developing a correct frame of mind. As explained in Bhagawadh Geeta - by becoming a "Sthita Pragna" (A person unattached to the consequences of his Karma and who acts according to the demands of his situation). Such a person can and will be happy coz he realises that whatever is happening to him is just a game of eternity reducing his past debts. An unhappy persons soul seeks happiness which makes it to take a rebirth. A happy persons soul satisfied with the things this earth and life has to offer moves towards emancipation. So, dont worry, be happy. The favorable aspects from other planets on Moon indicate the relations (ruled by those planets) who make us happy. The reverse (unfavorable) is also true. To take charge of our happiness - we could choose not to be attached to our karma. Moon is good between 8th tithi of both pakshas (Waxing). Moon is favorable in 2, 5, 9, 10, 11 houses. Neutral in 1, 3, 8, 12 houses and unfavorable in 4, 6, 7 houses unless these houses are not owned by Mercury (who logically negates Moon always. sometimes logic creates a mental abberation) and Saturn (who detaches the Mind from the heart creating a tension between the right or wrong thing to do). This is my humble opinion on this topic. Guest guest
Arial"> Arial"> -----Original Message----- Shreeya [venusgaal2003 (AT) (DOT) co.in] Wednesday, May 21, 2003 11:07 PM gjlist RE: [GJ] happiness, how to get more:) Hi I would like to ask what if the moon is unaspected by any planet then what is the situation regarding the mind of the person? Arial">No aspects won’t hurt the Moon as long as its not Kema Druma. The situation of the Mind (with regards to happiness) continues to be based on the rasi, the state of the subhpati (planet ruling the Moon’s rasi), and the fourth house/lord, (as well as dasas and transits). but with malefics like ketu ...how does ketu effect moon?why do u find the moon ketu combination in the spiritual people like Chaitnya Mahaprbhu? In general, Rahu kills the Sun, Moon and signs in which it is placed. Ketu will damage any planet it conjoins (not the luminaries) and the nakshatras it is in. The Nakshatras are a source of light, one of the astavastava, Ketu can block that source of light, but it is also the mukti marga, showing the path to liberation. For example, Ketu in Ashwini can show that there is liberation by serving as a doctor/healer. Ketu has no head, when this is negatively placed it shows someone who’s lost their mind (scizophrenia), but when well placed it can show someone who has Zen mind (no-mind, beginners mind), it has an advaitan mind that sees beyond all duality when well placed. Ketu is the liberator, well-placed with the Moon can give a mind focused on moksa, free from duality. Ketu is also called the keeper of the akashic records, those with good Ketu Moon combinations are known to have memory of their past births. But Ketu is a non-conformist, His vision is so broad, how can a mind seeing so much join only one point of view and limit itself, by having no mind he sees all points of view for what they are. Ganesh with his expanded head is the deity associated with Ketu, his head/mind is one of the most expanded. 12.0pt;font-family:Arial"> Thanks venusgaal mso-color-alt:windowtext"> Arial">Hare Rama Krisna Arial">Freedom Freedom <freedom (AT) (DOT) org> wrote: 0in;margin-left:39.75pt;margin-bottom:.0001pt;border:none;mso-border-left-alt: solid #1010FF 1.5pt;padding:0in;mso-padding-alt:0in 0in 0in 4.0pt"> color:navy"> Hare Rama Krisna mso-color-alt:windowtext"> 0in;margin-left:39.75pt;margin-bottom:.0001pt;border:none;mso-border-left-alt: solid #1010FF 1.5pt;padding:0in;mso-padding-alt:0in 0in 0in 4.0pt"> color:navy">The practice of Yoga, in all its facets, is the surest way to attain happiness. mso-color-alt:windowtext"> 0in;margin-left:39.75pt;margin-bottom:.0001pt;border:none;mso-border-left-alt: solid #1010FF 1.5pt;padding:0in;mso-padding-alt:0in 0in 0in 4.0pt"> color:navy"> mso-color-alt:windowtext"> 0in;margin-left:39.75pt;margin-bottom:.0001pt;border:none;mso-border-left-alt: solid #1010FF 1.5pt;padding:0in;mso-padding-alt:0in 0in 0in 4.0pt"> color:navy">Happiness is seen from the 4th house, its lord, and karaka (Moon). Guest guest
Hello Cynthia, You have raised the point which has been discussed so many times at various places and still it is mystery. I would like to share my thoughts with you and other members. I agree with people who say that happiness comes from within. But things are not so easy to describe because one can not generate or create happiness. There is one rule in nature that nothing happens without reason. So if someone is happy then there must be some reason(s) and if someone is not happy then also there must be some reason(s) behind it. Astrology can help in finding this reason(s). Personally I don’t believe in whatever said in religion and spiritual book because it is compromise with your desires and it leads to imaginary world. If we go on realistic and practical way then there is simple formula of happiness. Happiness = Achievements / Individual’s ambitions (desires) Generally we are not interested in finding reasons for happiness but in reverse case everybody are interested. I think when something does not happen according to our desire then we feel unhappiness. Each person can not rule the world so nobody can be 100% happy and nobody can be 100% unhappy. Interesting thing is that to feel happiness also we have to be unhappy sometime because then only we can understand and feel what is happiness. This discussion is endless and conclusion can never been derived because everybody has his/her own thinking and own definition of happiness. Many other factors create impact on this like geographical conditions, culture, family, age etc. and all factors are subject to change at any time so it’s very much difficult to derive one common rule. Another important point is that when we discuss about happiness we always forget middle state of mind or neutral state of mind. We always understand that we can be either happy or unhappy but this is not the case. There is one more stage between these two terminals. Now coming to the astrology point of view it is very common to consider moon in this matter. I believe that depending upon moon’s condition in chart we can estimate individual’s reaction to the circumstances. I have some observations from charts I have seen. I will share those some day with group members after compiling it. But in general Sun and Moon are most important. Guest guest
om gurave namah Dear All, There is much suffering in the world caused mainly due to the Souls need to burn off old debts. Activates likely to bring us peace of mind rather than happiness are associated with Jupiter and the Sun. What appeals to us is the illusion that we will achieve happiness from Venus and the Moon and the pursuit of sensual gratification. When our way is blocked we experience the results of the pursuit of illusion through the rage of Mars, the ignorance of Saturn and the meanness of Rahu as outlined in the Bhagavad Gita. Difficulties arise due to not being able to handle desires. Our deepest desire and the souls purpose for taking birth in this lifetime is seen through the Atmakaraka (the planet that has reached the highest degree) in the Navamsa. When our activities are in line with our purpose for being here we feel fully alive and vital. The Sun is the source of vitality and the AK is our Sun. The influences on the Moon can detract or enhance our ability to fulfil our purpose. The use of Mantra (mind protection) can help us to calm the mind and open us to what the spirit is asking of us. The Mantra associated with the Istha Devata will be particularly helpful. The Vimsottari Dasa periods are directed by the Moon and show the influences that are coming to the mind at any time. If there is a conflict relationship (6/8) between the Mahadasa lord and the AK we are likely to have a very difficult time. Also when we are running the Dasa of the AK, unless we have found our spiritual path, we will experience much suffering as the Souls get us in line with why we are here. Acceptance is key to peace of mind and the gift of Jyotish helps us to see why and when we are likely to experience difficulty. Marana Karaka placement of planets in transit from signs occupied by that planet will bring grief to the areas they rule in the chart and they are as follows: Su in 12th Mo in 8th MA in 7th ME in 7th JU in 3rd VE in 6th SA in 1st "Each of these signs are death-inflicting, When such a sign in natal chart is occupied or aspected by a malefic planet, or that sign falls in inimical or depression house or is destitute of strength and when that particular planet transits that sign, the native comes to grief" (p200 from Navamsa and Nadi Astrology by C.S. Patel) Another important point to note when assessing the source of difficulty during a Dasa period is to note what planets, if any, are in the Nakshatra of the Dasa Lord. When a planet is in the Nakshatra of another planet he is said to sit on the head of that planet and will impose his results during the Dasa. e.g. Mars in Purvashadha ruled by Venus will give Mars results during Venus Dasa. People usually only visit an astrologer when they are struggling with life and as astrologers we can help them by hopefully being able to identify the problem, its likely duration and remedies like Mantra's to calm the mind while the difficulties are being experienced. Happiness is another state of mind that can be addictive and drive us to cling on to the source, replaying the experience over in our minds and causing us to compulsively try to relive the experience. When we are younger we feel that this is the goal but as we get older peace of mind becomes more of a priority. Just some thoughts, hope it helps Best wishes, Pearl Finn Guru at SJC Ireland

Guest guest
Dear Cynthia, Thank you for raising this interesting subject. My suggestion is that one is happy if his life is fulfilling. He might not be joyful, not really beaming with smiles, sometimes or usually grave, fixed, concentrated, but happy. There are many emotions in our hearts, but what is most important, they have to have a purpose, a meaning. There will be always many things in life which would make us smile and many others which would drive us sad and crying. It must be this way, regardles of ones chart, or time of birth, as finally all of us have to die. But happiness is something more deep and dependant mainly on us. We have the initiative. But we can be helped also by others. An astrologer, or any advisor, can be a helping hand to a person, if he is able (using the jyotish, or not) to induce or inspire more of his client's responsibility to make his life more fulfilling. After all, if that person, assuming his serious approach, wants to consider not only his own desires, ambitions and perceptions, but is eager for broading his mindset by consulting higher wisdom, he is actually willing to put his life in harmony by understanding the general mission of his incarnation and cooperating with the universe, or the Absolute. This, of course, sounds very theoretically, but in practice it might mean something from learning humility or not being jealous, in this life or next ten lifetimes, for example, which is quite general - to anything like 'Have you tried to make your family happy today?' External conditions of one's life do not have much in common with his happiness, as movements of planets do not cause anything that happens in one's life. These are parallel realities, but not really directly connected as cause and effect. Most common understanding is that a horoscope of a person is showing his karma. I don't agree with that. There are a liberated, or free of karma, entities in this world, whose lives are also quite in tune with their horoscopes. This suggests that it is not so much a matter of exception, but rather that we are trying to see our karma while seeing the stars. Most Jyotish shastras are mainly discussing how we can infer about certain realities of life on the basis of different divinatory techniques. But very rarely they discuss how certain divinatory facts, as specific planetary placements for example, indicate definitely specific karmic cause in the past, that made up some conditioning now. So, we are rather more speculating about karma, than actually seeing it. We are able to see that one's weak points in chart are places of work, and strong points are places of support. But reason, why is all this programmed in our lives in such specific way, is quite beyond our ability to perceive. Problems are opportunities in work suits. Easy times are harvest times to prepare for work during the winter, but with fed stomach. If we simply consume the harvest, we make our lives empty, meaningless, by avoiding the significant work to be done, or mission to be fulfilled, often discouraged by dirty, or not apealing outfit. Oh, this is so boring, this is so difficult, this is so unattractive job to be done. I really prefere something else to be enjoyed. So, it is up to us, if we take up the challenge to make the progress and to develop our lives and souls, as it is up to astrologer, or advisor, if he is willing to really help that person to do it. If we do not prepare before and work during the exercise and exam (i.e. during the difficult ime), the whole arrangement for that lesson is mostly wasted. Only the feeling of unfulfillment would be serving us for better enthusiasm in the future. I do not buy a concept that we have to wait untill our karma would burn away, and that it was imposed on us. I believe we have chosen that specific life that was offered to us to learn and grow. And that we voluntarily accepted that plan for life, to take up our duty and spiritual ambition. It is our duty as astrologers to be a real friend of a client and to help the person to consider what is most important thing to do and learn. But to do it we have to learn it first, and then to learn to be someone's guide, even a casual one. Without this understanding it is very difficult to actually be a happy astrologer. Astrology is a jyoti, a light to inspire and help us to see the work to be done to make our and others' lives fulfilling and happy. An astrologer who would say to the client: 'You'll never be happy in this life!' seems to be an unfulfilled person who thinks his unhappy life was imposed on him, and thinks that others should be in a similar situation, as why should he be worse than others. Our progress or growth always takes place outside of our comfort-zone. If we want to learn something, we have to accept first that we don't have that specific ability, that we need it, and that it will take time and effort to learn. Very often while learning we tend to repeat wrong patterns, therefore we are bereft of direct memory of past trials (past lives), we are placed in situations of extreme (outside of our comfort-zone) and we are assisted with good advice or intuition. If a soul does't want to learn and grow, might be awarded quite easy life with minor lessons. But would it make its life more happy, as you wrote? Very often questions asked to astrologers are not to be answered from the client's charts. A client who had only his curiosity satisfied for the purose of his petty enjoyment (be him joyful or in sorrow at that time), is a client whose time with astrologer was quite wasted. But if he could understand how his life goal and growth fits his life lessons in time, he is most satisfied and happy, as astrologer too. Hoping it was not too boring and imposing, and didn't make anybody unhappy, :-)) All the best to all, Bart -- "cynthianovak" <cynthianovak <gjlist> Wednesday, May 21, 2003 4:51 PM Re: [GJ] happiness > Dear All > I am always struck when someone places a message asking if they will be > happy. Guest guest
Hare Rama Krisna happiness is a simple English word, in this discussion some have talked about happiness others 'true happiness'. There are different levels. In Sanskrit we have: Santosh which is contentment or being happy with what you have Sukha which literally means 'good space', the mind is in a good space, this is general worldly happiness that most seek Sama is equanimity of mind, this is a mind the not excited by good or bad but centered and still Ananda is spiritual happiness, or 'true happiness' (if there are more Guru please inform me) In Cynthia's original message I interpreted her to be referring mostly to Sukha, and in Vivek's he is referring to sukha. The Mana which experiences sukha/dukha is not that subtle, we see it in the way a person uses their words, we see the mind/manas as a person talks or writes. Upaya is very effective at this level, as the manas can be affected through puja and mantra. Worship of the fourth lord is conducive to santosh. Meditation and guidance is very effective on working with sama, equanimity of mind. Working with the Ishta devata is at the level of ananda, it is beyond just the Moon and perceptual reality. For Sukha (happiness and Dukha (suffering) we work with the Moon, the Mother, we are working with perceptual reality. For Papa/Purva Karma (curses, karmic afflictions) we are working with Bhagavan, and the Ishta Devata When we work to improve the happiness of an individual we must search and see the root of their unhappiness and work at the appropriate level for that individual. Guruji, A thought arisen as writing: Can we correlate happiness at these different levels? Guest guest
Bart Thank you! This is the direction I try to steer clients who are "unhappy" depressed or self-absorbed. I think that self absorption blocks the ability to appreciate the good things in life. By stepping out of that self absorption through acts of charity or simply by stretching out to those around us we feel more fulfilled, are more productive have more peace of mind and so are more happy. When we see that it is out actions...or lack of them that leads to "happiness" we take responsibility for the journey through life and are not hoping that some day we'll have a good transit or marry the "right" person and magically become "happy." When I have a client who is depressed I try to get them to promise me they will do some sort of charity work in the coming week. Often, they are so miserable they have no energy, yet that simple action of stretching outside the self can make a great difference in the brain chemistry. Freedom Thank you for these beautiful descriptions of happiness. I suspect that they are more interlinked than they would sound. Here is a question that I have pondered if we are truly still within...truly balanced...this may preclude movement in any direction. Perhaps this is desirable but perhaps it comes from many years of moving out of balance then striving to return. This is just a thought. Thank you both for your responses. Both have made me smile, ponder and reflect. Both are felt within my heart. - "Freedom" <freedom <gjlist> Sunday, May 25, 2003 4:02 PM RE: [GJ] happiness > > Hare Rama Krisna > > happiness is a simple English word, in this discussion some have talked > about happiness others 'true happiness'.
