Guest guest
Dear Zamani The atmakaraka is the planet with the highest number of degrees in the chart. In your chart the AK is mars, in the 10H. take care, Marcia At 12:22 PM 12/12/01 -0800, you wrote: Hi Its Zmaani , what would my atmakaraka plnet be ? based on my birthdata Zamani 9 - 19 - 1968 10: 23 am Eastern Daylight Savings Time Brooklyn New York 75w10, 39n57 Libra lagna
Guest guest
Om Sri Krsnaaya Namah! Hi Zamani, >Hi Its Zmaani , what would my atmakaraka plnet be ? While the natural atmakaraka (Naisargika atmakaraka) in jyotish is always the Sun, the temporary atmakaraka (Chara atmakaraka - often called the "Jaimini atmakaraka") is not fixed. To find it, you take the longitudes of the seven planets from the Sun to Saturn (without considering the signs) and also Rahu's longitude subtracted from 30* (again without sign considerations). Now, out of this list, the planet with the highest longitude is the atmakaraka. So in your case it's Mercury at 29*33' Virgo. It should be noted that there is a controversy from ancient times as to whether or not Rahu should be used or not. Sages Parashara and Jaimini talk of some of their contemporaries using a seven karaka scheme (excluding Rahu). However, both of them unanimously recommend the eight karaka scheme. By all means you can experiment to find which system you find best - having tried both I find the eight karaka scheme to work better. But when experimenting with the seven karaka scheme, note that the seven karaka scheme popularly used today is in fact still different from that used in ancient times, and therefore, as far as I am aware, it has no classical backing. In the ancient seven karaka scheme, the putra karaka is omitted while the pitri karaka is kept, whereas the modern seven karaka scheme does the opposite. The latter system does not therefore have any remote level of classical support. Hope this helps, Pursottam
