Guest guest
Renee, Yeah I would agree about the origin of Santeria , too, with you.. I'm not sure whether any of Irish culture other than the language caught on there. I do also remember that the music from there--the drumming of the former Africans was almost entirely stamped out here in North American--the uh, exception?-- Was in Lousiana--along with VooDoun-- The slave owners in the Carribeans Islands were much more liberal about the slaves keeping to their former ways. no problem there. Here, they went inot spirituals to keep the ryhthm of the old culture intact in the music, anyway..I think it was just barely touched on in "The Serpent And The Rainbow" in book form, not the movie--I presume only from the movie trailers--not having seen the movie, only having read the book... Wouldn't surprize me if "jumping the broom" was some sort of a derivative of Yoruba culture. Those accounts of Irish slaves in the Carribean--it would be found in the histories of the Islands formerly under Englash control, wouldn't it? Best Wishes, D. Guest guest
Thanks Denise Any information you are in the mood to share I would be most interested in learning. To all Have you noticed the story in the newspapers recently. Nigerian women took over Exxon / Mobile facilities in protest? The women are unarmed yet they took 700 (?) workers hostage! Just read today that they got a contract from E/M. All they wanted was work for their men and they got it! Yippeee! Do you know what their great threat was? They threatened to disrobe and shame the hostages by the women's own nudity. That's powerful magic. You might wonder what this has to do with astrology. I'm a passionate user of nakshatras. Jupiter and Mercury are in Punarvasu: return to the light. It would seem to me that return to the light requires a return to magic. You might think I'm crazy but a group of unarmed Nigerian women holding 700 workers hostage and getting what they want from a huge dispassionate oil company sounds like a return to the light! The SAturn Pluto restructuring is underway in so many forms. The challenge may be to avoid falling back. c - "Denise Notley" <venerablebede <gjlist> Thursday, July 18, 2002 2:52 AM [GJ] Celts and the Carib > Renee, > > Yeah I would agree about the origin of Santeria , too, with you.. Guest guest
ooops wrong conglomerate It was Chevron Texaco In case you are curious about what the women got: "The women, some with babies bound to their backs sand and danced on the facility's docks Monday when they learned that the company had offered to hire at least 25 villagers over five years. The company said it also was willing to build schools; provide water, electricity and a community center; and help the women establish poultry and fish farms to supply the terminal's cafeteria." c - "Denise Notley" <venerablebede <gjlist> Thursday, July 18, 2002 2:52 AM [GJ] Celts and the Carib > Renee, > > Yeah I would agree about the origin of Santeria , too, with you..
