A vedic astrology conference - Labor day Yoga retreat

at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm, Grass Valley, Ca.

Aug 30-Sep 2,2002

 

Jyotish, the traditional astrology of India, is a

powerful tool to help you gain insight into the

direction and purpose of your personal life and

collective life . This third annual conference offered

at the Sivananda Ashram Yoga Farm in Grass Valley,

CA.will present on a beginner’s level, general

discussions on spirituality indicators, relationships,

world predictions, life cycles and transitions as well

as many workshops on astrology for intermediate and

advanced.

 

 

Guest speakers and teachers:

Gary Gomes was among the first wave of Westerners to

take up Hindu astrology and is a founding member and

Board member of the American College of Vedic

Astrology. He has also lectured on Hindu Astrology

throughout the United States, in Hawaii and in

England. He has also written extensively on this

system of astrology, and has been published in the

United States, England, France, South Africa,

Australia, and India. His honors include being

recognized and certified by the Bharata Vidya Bhavan,

an Indian institution devoted to traditional Hindu

knowledge, for his work in promoting Jaimini

Astrology.

Gary is an ordained Swami of the Kriya Yoga lineage

(Swami Kampananda) and is a duly initiated practicing

Hindu of the Shaivite(Shiva) tradition with the

initiated name of Gangadhara Girish. He has studied

Hindu Astrology with several prominent Indian and

American astrologers, is certified to instruct Jyotish

(Hindu Astrology) by the American Council of Vedic

Astrology, has organized an Institute for instruction

in Jyotish in the New England area, and has done

charts for thousands of individuals from different

parts of the United States and the world. He is also

an Assistant Professor of Jyotisha (Hindu Astrology)

at the Hindu University of America, a meditation

instructor, and a Reiki Master.

 

Komilla Sutton is an establish vedic astrologer with a

busy practice in South of England. She co-founded the

British Association for Vedic Astrology (BAVA) and is

on the Board of American council of Vedic Astrology

(ACVA). She lectures around the world and is the

author of three wonderful books “The Essentials of

Vedic Astrology”, “Indian Astrology” and “the Lunar

Nodes, Crisis and Redemption”.

 

James Kelleher . James Kelleher has been a full-time

astrologer since 1980. He was introduced to astrology

in 1975 by M.K. Gandhi, a world-renowned Vedic

astrologer and spiritual adept. Gandhi gave him his

first astrology reading in which he predicted that Jim

would become an astrologer and encouraged him to begin

reading about the subject. Gandhi offered to train Jim

in the Vedic system of astrology and later invited him

to become his personal assistant.

After studying astrology in India, Jim worked as a

professional astrologer in London for five years,

assisting Gandhi with his diverse international

clientele. In 1984 he returned to the United States

and quickly became one of the country's leading Vedic

astrologers. Today he serves on the board of directors

of the American Council of Vedic Astrology and has a

busy private practice in California."

 

Ernst Wilhelm earned a degree in Naturopathy at the

age of twenty-one. After practicing in that field for

one year, particularly Iridology and nutritional

counseling, he quit due to believing that physical

well-being was secondary to mental, emotional and

spiritual well-being, and instead turned his attention

towards astrology. Since then he has made an extensive

study of the classical texts from India as well as

having studied many texts by Western Astrologers.

After many years of study he has come to believe that,

for those of intellectual bent, the best use of

astrology is the study of astrology. The study of

astrology, the Eyes of the Vedas, can assist a person

in learning to see that everything is an aspect of

God, and to live a life of detachment, duty and

happiness. So while maintaining a private practice,

his greatest inspiration is the teaching of astrology

for which he has founded Jyotish Academy

International, teaching Vedic Astrology worldwide

through classes as well as correspondence courses. He

is a regular contributor to Vedic Astrology magazine,

and an American Council of Vedic Astrology certified

teacher. He is the author of Vault of the Heavens,

Treatise on Vedic Astrology, Core Yogas, and Tarot-

Bringing Us Closer to the Truth. His current writing

projects include the literal translation and

commentary on an important Sanskrit astrology text-

Upadesa Sutras, and a book on relationship

compatibility. He is also developing, Käla- Vedic

Astrology Software in partnership with his wife,

Srishti.

 

Edith Hathaway A full-time professional astrologer

since 1980, Edith has an international reputation as

an astrological consultant, writer, teacher, and

lecturer. She is currently one of the few practicing

astrologers in the West with a thorough grounding in

the best predictive and delineation methods of both

East and West. She is author of "Navigating by the

Stars" and many other writings on vedic astrology as

well as producer of 12 audio cassettes on the vedic

chart . She is a certified Master Astro*Carto*Grapher,

holds a certificate as Qualified Consulting Astrologer

from the NCGR (National Council of Geocosmic

Research), and is a recipient of the prestigious

Jyotish Kovid award from the Indian Council of

Astrological Sciences. She is a frequent lecturer,

tutor, Founding member and Steering Committee member

of the American Council of Vedic Astrology, and an

Advisory Board member of the American College of Vedic

Astrology. Since 1983 Edith's private astrological

consulting practice is based in Santa Fe, New Mexico,

USA.

 

Pun Yin is a Feng Shui Master established in New York

, who has brought authentic principles of Feng Shui to

western countries. She has built her reputation since

the 1980s through consultation for a wide variety of

clients such as BBC, ASAHI Weekly, Investor’s Business

Daily, Trump International Hotel and Tower, American

Express, First republic Bank, Hong Kong and Shanghai

Bank, Marine Midland Bank, Renaissance New York Hotel

, Sloan Catering Cancer Center among others. By

delivering a customized individualized analysis for

each client, she helps creates a harmonious or

professional environment. She is trained from age 10

from her father the world renown master Tin Sun in the

ancient Chinese art blending Feng Shui and Chinese

life reading, 15 year of traditional apprenticeship on

countless field cases solidifies her early training

and enable her to fulfill her role as a bridge between

the original practice of Feng Shui and its practical

modern application.

 

Chakrapani Ullal sends his pranams and excuses. He

could not come as his son is getting married in Bombay

in September .

 

Krishnan Namboodiri, is a resident priest of the

Sivananda Ashram. He is an expert tantric namboodiri

priest from Kerala specialized in remedial measures

and in tantric rituals such as pujas and homas. He is

an experienced astrologer, specializing in a the

kerala technique of Prashna, the branch of astrology

which gives the predictions based on readings of the

moment, signs and omens. He will perform the Krishna

puja and the Navagraha homa (fire ritual for the 9

planets)

 

Carol Allen is a founding teacher and the

co-coordinator of The Los Angeles Yoga School of Vedic

Astrology and a member of The American Council of

Vedic Astrology. In private practice, Carol has

counseled thousands of people in the areas of

relationships, finances, career, health, real estate,

travel, and conception. She has been a featured guest

on dozens of local and nationally syndicated radio

shows, and the Lifetime Television Show, Beyond

Chance. Her writings have been in several books of the

Hot Chocolate for the Mystical Soul series, A Second

Chicken Soup for the Woman’s Soul, The Whole Life

Times, New Woman Spirit, The Taos Sun, The Journal for

the American Council of Vedic Astrology, and Woman’s

World. Carol has been studying and practicing since

1991.

 

Swami Sitaramananda, a senior disciple of Swami

Vishnu-devananda, is Director of the Sivananda Ashram

Yoga Farm. She has taught and lectured around the

world on a diverse range of Yoga topics and also

teaches in the Sivananda Teachers Training Courses

 

Anuradha Prabhasankar is a Bharatanatyam dancer in the

Bay Area who learned this devotional dance art since

she was 7 old from Lalitha Srinivasan of Nupura School

of Bharatanatyam in Bangalore. Anuradha is a student

of Vidhya Subramanian of the Lasya Dance Company in

the San Francisco Bay area and has participated in

many

of the company's presentations. This time she will be

performing Krishna dance in the occasion of Krishna

Jayanti, the celebration of the birthday of Sri

Krishna.

 

 

 

 

SCHEDULE OF LECTURES AND WORKSHOPS:

( in addition to this program, there are the daily

Yoga classes open to all levels 8am-10am and 4pm-6pm,

and vegetarian brunch served at 10am and dinner at

6pm. "Satsang" refers to group silent meditation for

1/2 hour, and chanting of sanskrit kirtan (spiritual

songs and prayers). To note * refers to beginners in

vedic astrology; ** refers to intermediate i.e. those

who have a basic notion of a chart, signs, houses and

planets and *** refers to advanced students, those who

can do chart interpretation.

How to get here: From San Francisco, take Hwy 80 to

the town of Auburn., exit Hwy 49 North/Grass Valley.

Turn L off exit and go 11 miles to Wolf Road (signal

light) turn L. Go 1.8 miles and turn R on Duggins

Road. Go 2 miles to the end and turn L onto Lime Kiln.

Go 2.4 miles - the road becomes McCourtney (continue

straight, do not turn left). Continue for 1.2 miles

and turn L onto Ballantree Lane. Go .9 miles to the

Ashram driveway marked by a sign on the left.

Accommodations and Rates per night: Includes daily two

meals, two Yoga classes, two meditation sessions, use

of facility, lectures and workshops, night

Workshop costs:

There is an additional $108 donation required for

participation in the whole series of astrology

workshops (Sat.-Mon not including Feng Shui workshop).

If not attending the workshops the weekend basic rate

applies (see above) to your stay. Individual workshop

cost: $20 (one hour); $25 (two hours). Special Feng

Shui workshop Monday afternoon (2hour) $25

Astrological consultations are available with the

guest astrologers. Appointments to be arranged

directly with the astrologer.
