Dear List,

In one of my assignments on Vedic astrology I have to know a little about

western astrology in relation to squares, trines, etc. Does anyone know of a

good, simple, step by step introduction to western astrology on the www.

Thanks in advance

Robyn

Dear Robyn

Ask me what you need to know and I can answer. The crux of the matter is this.

In Vedic astrology the planets throw their energy into the houses. In western,

they meet out in the heavens in geometric angles or aspects.

Trines, which likely stemmed from Jupiter aspects in Jyotish or in medieval

astroly are associated with flow. Planets in the same element, earth, air fire

or water are 120 degrees apart and so trine to each other. The closer to the

same degree the stronger. If you have three planets each 120 degrees apart

they form a grand trine or the best of all. Even Saturn would trine other

planets and that would be considered a favorable aspect. It is how they link

planets together rather like yogas.

Squares are naturally 90 degrees apart and they are in cardinal fixed or

mutable. In Vedic it would be moveable, chara or stira.

Oppositions are 180 degrees,

Anything else you need to know?

Hi Cynthia,

Yes...I think I've got it. Must ponder over these new things and see how I go.

Will let you know if I get into difficulty here. I must understand this.

Many thanks
