Dear revered jyotishi,

Can someone help me to find out if there was a Sun eclipse on 21 October

-6 (7 BC) in the early morning hours over Israel? I'm still searching

further for the chart of Jesus Christ, and found this date to be quite

possible. It is said that on that day the people were thinking that the

Sun would not come up, hinting towards a Sun eclipse when the Sun was

rising that day. Also, I found the Pascha festival was not in April as we

celebrate nowadays, but used to be in November (according to present day

calendars). Thanks to Natabara Prabhu, who informed me of a Sun eclipse

over Israel on 22 November in the year AD 29 when Jesus would have been

crucified. Maybe, can someone ask if Natabara knows of other Sun eclipses,

like the one supposedly on 21 Oct -6?

Also, Visti, I would like to ask your opinion on this chart. The story

goes that Jesus's parents were traveling every year to Jerusalem on the

occasion of Pascha festival. And they were going also to inscribe them for

the population poll, so that must have happened at the same time.

Remarkable is that the name Pascha is so similar to the lunar month Pausa

or Pusya, on which date the above mentioned Sun eclipse happened in AD 29.

Best wishes,

Dhira Krsna

Not as strange as you think. The head of the "Silk Road" that lead from the the

modern site of

Israel (basically Petra) was an established trade route in the time before

Jesus. This is established

in the fact that Pliny the Elder wrote of Silk manufacture (something he could

only of know of from

the Chinese, as this was the most guarded secret of the Chinese Emperors) in ~70

BCE. Even

accounting for Gregorius' error in calculating the calendar, this would have

been 67 years before the

birth of Jesus (or Yashua ben Yoseph, for his true Hebrew name according to the

book of Yaweh).

It is well established that the initial study of astrology, that the Indian

people evolved to Jyotish

came from the Babylonians (actually the Sumerians and Aakadians) during the time

of the Alexandrian

Empire. Curiously, Sanskrit and Sumerian (presumably Aakadian, although there

is virtually no

surviving instances) share a number of characteristics. The most notably being

that both are languages

of energy rather than communication. If one examines the ancient Sumerian, one

finds the same trouble

of translation that one does with Sanskrit, a number of the constructs cannot be

represented well in a

language of comminication (English, Spanish, Chinese, Hindi, Tamil or Arabic,

for instance) because

they convey much more than meaning. It is assumed that both Sanskrit and

Sumerian evolved from the

Indo-European language, that was an oral language only.

Thus, the pronunciation of words, and the assignment of similar days (especially

days that are near

significant astronomical or astrological events is not surprising. What is a

little more surprising is that

the word for spiritual energy, prana, is very similar to the Polynesian word for

spiritual energy, mana, and

the native American word for the same, mana. Thus powerful spirits in the

native American languages

are often Manitou (beings of spiritual power).

In many religions, the days of spiritual practice were "preempted" by a new

religion. This prevented the

converts from backsliding into the old worship (since you cannot be in two

places at once), and at the

same time didn't force them to be left out when everyone else was celebrating.

This is why Christmas,

Yule (the Celtic feast of rebirth) and the Roman feast of Jaanus all were

coincident, just to site a case.

Hope this provides a bit of insite.

Namaste'

John M

Dear Dhira,

Sage Gargacharya talks about using eclipses to time important events in

humanity. Brihat Samhita explains this more closely in the use of seeing wars,

or results on a mundane level, wherein the birth of divine personalities who

influence the present, no doubt also is included.

As for an eclipse in Bethlehem on the given date, there was none. The lattitude

of the Moon was at 2.8 degrees, hence no eclipse occured.
