Dear Ravindra,

It does - you have to select the "Windows NT" option when installing.

If your PC's processor speed is slow, then it will be slow to handle advanced

programs like Win XP or other latest versions of software esp graphical

software. That is why there should be always adjustment with hardware (Machine)

10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:navy">When it comes to computers, the more

memory (RAM) you have, the better. It also helps to have your hard drives

spinning at 7200 RPMs. You will need the faster drives because XP can hold more

and bigger files with its new file system, NTFS. It also helps to have a faster

front-side bus and RAM that matches it. You might want to inspect various motherboards,

processors (Intel vs. AMD), and types of RAM because an internal hardware

change might be a good investment. So far XP is the best operating system MS

has produced, but learning it is daunting. Familiar names for processes have

been renamed: they have gotten “cuter” as if the average computer

user has gotten dumber.

10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:navy">

10.0pt;font-family:Arial;color:navy">XP is much bigger than Win98 but the

appearance is not so obvious. Many of the Windows functions are scattered

around on the drive in different directories: not everything is in the \Windows

directory. The part that appears in the C:\Windows directory is a hefty 1.12 GB

on my computer. Window XP also also allows you to choose one of two files

systems (at least in XP professional, which I have). One is the familiar FAT32.

The new one is NTFS. You can do a Google search for a comparison of the two.

There are some applications that may not run under XP that ran well under 98SE.

For example, I use Janus 3.0 and I needed to get a patch from

color:navy">New Zealand. I also lost many of the

functions in my file manager, the venerable Norton Navigator for Windows 95. It

is not fully operational under the NTFS file system. I supplement it with a

freeware product called Turbo Navigator. I use these utilities because I hate

the mazelike way of moving around in the Windows file manager, Windows

Explorer. The two products I mentioned allow you to see all the branches of

your file system and you can have at least two windows open simultaneously. This

greatly facilitates the transfer or copying of files from one directory to

another or especially from one drive to another.

Dear Cynthia,

Try increasing virtual memory size (Paging file) size in control panel -

In most cases, the speed at which XP runs is dependent on the amount of

memory in the box.

If you are having speed problems, and have a reasonably fast processor,

like an 800 MHZ and above, look at your memory.

The more the merrier, folks.

I have a 700 MHZ development machine that has 1.128 G [yep that is GIG] of

memory on it. And it runs like ,,,, ah really really well.

We had a 1.2 GHz machine that was a dog. Why? It had 128M of main

memory on it. When I goosed it up to 256, it more than tripled

in apparant speed.

Once you do that, if you still have a problem, download an Ad Zapper like

AdAware and clean out all the spyware you have accumulated

in the course of your travels about the net. Especially get rid of

the 25 copies of Xupiter browser hijacker that others have gifted on you.

Then consider using SpyBlocker or something similar to kill this crap

before it kills your machines' performance.

This cures 90% of the problems most people I know of have with their

machines. For the other 10%, put in a hardware firewall (if you have DSL,

ISDN, or a direct Connection to the Internet) or get something like

BlackIce or Similar for dialup/cable modem, and put an UPS battery backup

on the line to condition and stabilize the power.

That should get you to the 95%+ reliability and speed zone.

The more the merrier, folks.

I have a 700 MHZ development machine that has 1.128 G [yep that is GIG] of

memory on it. And it runs like ,,,, ah really really well.

We had a 1.2 GHz machine that was a dog. Why? It had 128M of main memory on it.

When I goosed it up to 256, it more than tripled

in apparant speed.

Once you do that, if you still have a problem, download an Ad Zapper like

AdAware and clean out all the spyware you have accumulated

in the course of your travels about the net. Especially get rid of the 25

copies of Xupiter browser hijacker that others have gifted on you.

Then consider using SpyBlocker or something similar to kill this crap before it

kills your machines' performance.

This cures 90% of the problems most people I know of have with their machines.

For the other 10%, put in a hardware firewall (if you have DSL,

ISDN, or a direct Connection to the Internet) or get something like BlackIce or

Similar for dialup/cable modem, and put an UPS battery backup

on the line to condition and stabilize the power.

That should get you to the 95%+ reliability and speed zone.

In most cases, the speed at which XP runs is dependent on the amount of memory in the box.

If you are having speed problems, and have a reasonably fast processor, like an

800 MHZ and above, look at your memory.

If your PC's processor speed is slow, then it will be slow to handle advanced

programs like Win XP or other latest versions of software esp graphical

software. That is why there should be always adjustment with hardware (Machine)

and software.> > t> > > > What can not happen, can never happen.>
