Any afflictions to this house or its lord or karaka (i.e, Moon) by Rahu, Ketu, Functional malefics put the person out of home. This may not be a pleasant foreign assignment. The dasa should also be checked. All the above planetary dasas put the person out of homeland. 9th house is the house of long journeys and higher education or learning. A person out of home tends to diversify his learning by foreign contact. So, any planets involving 9th house by placement or lordship and their dasas help us out grow the home. Hence lead us to a pleasant foreign travel/residence or long journeys. 12th house involves lost people/minds/souls. By this I mean the people who lose their home. Hence put in a foreign territory. This may or may not be a pleasant foreign travel/stay. It depends on benefic/malefic influences on 12th house whether the person is happy/sad by his foreign position. Also, the planetary dasas influencing the 12th house in the horoscope fructify accordingly. The above description is a generalised one. As far as I know malefics like Sun, Saturn, Mars, Rahu & Ketu in the above 3 houses give suffering while the person is away from home. Benefics like Jupiter, Venus, Moon and Mercury give pleasant effects while we r out in the foreign. This is my understanding . Could you please comment on the placement of yogkarakas in these houses, for e.g. mars is yogkaraka for leo and placed in 12th house.
