Guest guest
om gurave namah Dear Das, It is great to hear you and I look forward to seeing you in Ireland One of the problems of tracing the Druidic tradition in Ireland is that it was an Oral tradition mainly and anything that was written would be in old Gaelic, not easily translated today. On our landscape we have many examples of astrological sites and one of the most impressive is Newgrange. One of the oldest monument on the Irish landscape is a site built based on astrological principles, it is a place where 5000 years ago the people put so much importance on the moment of Sunrise as the Sun started its journey northward that they spent years creating a monument to it that has lasted to this day and will continue to survive long after we are gone. In the Bhagavad Gita we see reference to the importance of this event in the lines "Fire, light, day, the moon's brightness, the six-months of the north turning sun; dying then, men who are free go to absolute freedom." Smoke, gloom, night, the moon's darkness' The six months of the south-turning sun; Dying then, men of yoga Reach the moon's light and return. These paths, of light and of darkness, Have always existed; by one, A man will escape from rebirth; By the other, he is born again" This suggests to me that 2 groups of people at around the same time, thousands of miles apart, were practising the same form of worship that believed that the strength of light available for an event was extremely important. It also suggests that they both believed in the concept of reincarnation or the belief that if we die when the Sun is moving in its Northward direction, between the Winter Solstice and Summer Solstice, that we will not have to be reborn. It also proves the importance that was placed by our ancestors on the movement and power of the Sun. Their is much to be learned about the wealth of our tradition, and by learning Jyotish I feel the possibility is there to be better able to understand where I come from and hopefully have some of its secrets revealed. As we are ready more will be revealed.
