Guest guest
Namaste Listmembers, Dear John, I can only repeat what I have been told, which may or may not be correct, but to expand on your info... "The Irish Celts let the Norse form a colony in the area where Dublin is now. Why? Well they were at least worthy opponents to sharpen their war skills on..." There were 3 clans of McMurrough (Murphy), 1 in the North and 2 in the South. A clan leader of the Northern O' Meaher (Maher or Marr) invited a Norse contingent of over a thousand fully armed soldiers to help him settle a dispute b/w his brethren. (Irish equivalent to Judas!!) The northern clan of McMurrough were routed and their lands seized. The survivors were taken in by the McMurrough clans of Cork and Claire. Not only the McMurrough's, but other friendly southern clans fought them to a 'line' in Dublin. The Norse were invited to Erin, but not by the Murphy's!. We say "um-mah" when somebody does something wrong!. Warm Regards, Ann.
