Guest guest
Thanks Peter, I have always held the beliefs your letters put forth nicely. Thanks for the time spent to gather and post those resources which others may benefit from, or be inspired by as well. To make things more difficult however, I must add, that meat eating is something certain animals do because they have no choice, for reasons like having only strong teeth and no agile fingers/hands, such as sharks, or because they can run fast and bite, but can't farm, such as Cheetas, and so on the list continues. At certain points in history, and in certain places, meat eating was/is the only way to survive for humans as well, just like those animals. So the line of Gautama Budha about disallowing it, using the first tense of "I dissallow it", is the rhetoric of God. Now, this God, who supposedly also created everything, must surely know that at some places at some times it's the only thing to eat. So how can he dissallow it? ... the human has to stand by and starve, while the vulchers and cheetas survive? Doesn't make much sense. Unless there is a situation we're facing where we, the humans, are being tested to see how austere we can be, how focused on following rules which are mental (something animals do not do at all) we can be, how much we can have faith and believe, and stay to some rules, and maybe die for them, well, then it would make sense for God rhetoric and dogma like what Budha supposedly said. Personally, I've come to the point of accepting the flow. I mean, if say ancient peoples, or modern peoples in difficult places, ate/eat meat to survive, well if that causes them to miss the boat of liberation in this life, my mood is, "so what, God did it to them". Because God, or the Divine, is in charge, not us. Take some starving kid in some ravaged African nation at this time. I mean, how much control does that kid have? I can drive down to the health food store here in Eugene called "Sundance", and pick from THEE MOST awesome raw/vegan buffet/deli salad bar that you can possibly imagine being on Earth (I do this every day). That salad bar is like heaven to me, and I've never seen one like it in any other city, anywhere on earth. There should be one on every street corner, and I wish for all my brothers and sisters that it would be so, and that they could all afford it (as they should be able to...I mean, doesn't virtually everyone have the means, and deserves, to EAT! Yes, they do. They actually do. It's so basic. But anyway, weird thing is, that these kinds of raw/vegan awesome salad bars exist only in certain small stores and restaurants in certain cities where there is the mindset to support it. I doubt one would go over in Winnamucka Nevada, or even Reno. People just might miss it and not care. Americas eat junk all the time and think it's normal. Even many Hindus eat for example, colorful frosted breakfast cereals, white bread, dohnuts, etc. Just being vegetarian doesn't mean "free from junk food". But I do want to say, that in coming to terms with the ancient Celts, which I simply must do out of love for them for various reasons, I have come to accept their hunting, their meat eating, love of pork, and so many things. But I still don't eat meat. I recognize however that meat eating is something that is "normal" to most people, because it is so ancient of a cultural norm. It is simply a part of the psychi of most people to accept that animals are potential food, and although they are repulsed by the gore of slaughter, the thought of eating their pets, and so on, they still don't baulk at the sight of meat in the food store, and they buy it, cook it, and eat it. I think personally I'd rather starve. I would have a real hard time putting bodily muscle into my mouth ever again. Yikes. So I see meat eaters as fine humans, totally fine humans, again, like I used to, and I see vegetarianism as fine, excellent, and wish it for everyone, and I walk this razors edge finding it wide and no problem, because the ins and outs, ups and downs, rights and wrongs, are all none of my business, because each soul is being raised just right already. This doesn't mean I won't work and campaign, but I don't need to "feel" what is really not mine to feel, judge, be concerned about, etc. Mine is my work. The result, the judgement, etc., is not mine. This I've realized. my bit on this das/roik
Guest guest
Hi Das, Thanks for such an intelligent reply.(I hope some of my words have helped you in someway)I don't have a hard time, sort of thing with meateaters.I sit down at Christmas dinner with my kin.I'm made a lovely special all vegan meal.I sit down with them eat my vegan, while they tuck into their turkey.I don't give them a hard time, even though I'm aware of the cruelty. In the UK we have had a blistering heat wave for the last 3 days, computer is on 1st floor of the house, very hot to type,so think will end reply in a moment.I appreciate many meateaters are quite nice, decent, people in their own way.I do however believe they could be much nicer, kinder to themselves and the planet if they eat vegan:) Yeah really good to know you have a great vegan place in Eugene,I've heard Eugene is a really hip hippy place.Must be loads of suitable woman around. Before I joined the animal welfare group.I did put a sort of lonely hearts add on the board.I described myself in glowing terms,Professional layabout, hundred % sussed, green aware, etc, etc, seeks attractive, young, slim vegan, not adverse to bonking,(no I didn't say that, perhaps is should have:)...they took it off the board:)Not because it was unpleasant in anyway, the woman in there are not together.I thought it was a really good way to meet someone nice.I printed little pictures of various animals around the boarder. Anyway, bla, bla.Being a vegan can be bit isolating, perhaps you have difficulty meeting,"crumpet" too:).......Sort of putting yourself in the right place Das.Perhaps you could get to help out in the shop on like a busy day, like Saturday, must be quite a few suitable woman go in to the shop mate:) Hey Das,if I were God Almighty,I'd be thinking,"This Das,is a truly, genuine, helpful nice guy.I think he deserves a really beautiful woman. He just has to be patient while I put it all together for him. Chill:) Ps,it may sound I'm being superficial about relationships, not at all I'm being light-hearted,not heavy, heavy. Pps,I've heard it said, men think with their heads, rather than act from their hearts.I think that's true for your more straight 9-5 types. Its weird people can spend their whole lives looking for that relationship, when they get it,after a while it totally sucks:)Then, god knows are innermost secrets and can see straight into our hearts, there is no hiding place,no excuses,we all get what we deserve, good or bad,as we judge it,through our actions and karma. Guest guest
Dear Peter, I'm crying so hard with laughter right now that I wanted to thank you for your contribution. Makes me see myself in a whole new, rather torrid light. I haven't laughed so hard since - well since this morning. I think that was to your credit too. BTW, I remember a scene like your lonely hearts board ad from a movie called, I think, Revenge of the "crumpet". Obviously these women are not together. God, I can't possibly have any tears left! Ah, Peter, your good intentions are so stamped all over this, that I've gotta like you for it. THANK YOU! -Mary --- Peter Goodchild <Peter wrote: > > Hi Das, > Thanks for such an intelligent reply.(I hope some of > my words have helped > you in someway)I don't have a hard time, sort of > thing with meateaters.I sit > down at Christmas dinner with my kin.I'm made a > lovely special all vegan > meal.I sit down with them eat my vegan, while they > tuck into their turkey.I > don't give them a hard time, even though I'm aware of > the cruelty. > > In the UK we have had a blistering heat wave for the > last 3 days, computer is > on 1st floor of the house, very hot to type,so think > will end reply in a > moment.I appreciate many meateaters are quite > nice, decent, people in their > own way.I do however believe they could be much > nicer, kinder to themselves > and the planet if they eat vegan:) > > Yeah really good to know you have a great vegan > place in Eugene,I've heard > Eugene is a really hip hippy place.Must be loads of > suitable woman > around. Before I joined the animal welfare group.I > did put a sort of lonely > hearts add on the board.I described myself in > glowing terms,Professional > layabout, hundred % sussed, green aware, etc, etc, seeks > attractive, young, slim > vegan, not adverse to bonking,(no I didn't say > that, perhaps is should > have:)...they took it off the board:)Not because it > was unpleasant in > anyway, the woman in there are not together.I thought > it was a really good > way to meet someone nice.I printed little pictures > of various animals around > the boarder. > > Anyway, bla, bla.Being a vegan can be bit > isolating, perhaps you have > difficulty meeting,"crumpet" too:).......Sort of > putting yourself in the > right place Das.Perhaps you could get to help out in > the shop on like a busy > day, like Saturday, must be quite a few suitable woman > go in to the shop > mate:) > > Hey Das,if I were God Almighty,I'd be thinking,"This > Das,is a > truly, genuine, helpful nice guy.I think he deserves a > really beautiful > woman. He just has to be patient while I put it all > together for him. > Chill:) > Ps,it may sound I'm being superficial about > relationships, not at all I'm > being light-hearted,not heavy, heavy. > Pps,I've heard it said, men think with their > heads, rather than act from their > hearts.I think that's true for your more straight > 9-5 types. Its weird people > can spend their whole lives looking for that > relationship, when they get > it,after a while it totally sucks:)Then, god knows > are innermost secrets and > can see straight into our hearts, there is no hiding > place,no excuses,we all > get what we deserve, good or bad,as we judge > it,through our actions and > karma. > Chill:) > Peter > - > "Das Goravani" <> > <gjlist> > Friday, August 08, 2003 5:09 PM > [GJ] Meat eaters, vegetarians, all the same > to me > > > > > > Thanks Peter, I have always held the beliefs your > letters put forth > nicely. > > Thanks for the time spent to gather and post those > resources which others > > may benefit from, or be inspired by as well. > > > > To make things more difficult however, I must add, > that meat eating is > > something certain animals do because they have no > choice, for reasons like > > having only strong teeth and no agile > fingers/hands, such as sharks, or > > because they can run fast and bite, but can't > farm, such as Cheetas, and > so > > on the list continues. > > > > At certain points in history, and in certain > places, meat eating was/is > the > > only way to survive for humans as well, just like > those animals. > > > > So the line of Gautama Budha about disallowing it, > using the first tense > of > > "I dissallow it", is the rhetoric of God. Guest guest
Hi Mary, I'm glad I made you laugh,I can picture you having a laugh, that's good.I know and appreciate, it all does, have a very funny aspect. There is also a serious note,on the level of loneliness, emotional pain, trying to find a suitable relationship,a longing to love and be loved, unrequited love, all that stuff.A stumbling, reaching out.Holding ones hand out,in sincerity, and continually having it bitten.I feel for Das,I get the sense that his situation,is a great deal more intense than mine,a lot more. For someone like Das,I think that is very sad,I feel for myself too.. There are good and bad folks in the world, that's black and white. One can't pretend,to oneself, that everybody is absolutely marvellous, because, that just ain't the case.Like my Kick-boxing coach says,"There are a lot of A-Holes in the world Peter." Think of the level of domestic violence, child abuse and all the rest off.People getting hold of a pet cat, hanging it from a tree, throwing petrol on it,and setting it on fire,it goes on,all the time.Like the Christians say,"Want friends?try being one"Some peoples sprits are just demons, who have taken on human form. Some woman, are just plain totally 100%, heartless, psychotic bitches,it may sound over the top, sad, but true. The divorce rate soars, I hear the sad stories some of my friends relate to me about aspects of their romances. Some guys top themselves because of woman.A friend says to me like,"I know you're looking for someone, but Peter, you don't realise how lucky you are, not being in a relationship. The number of people I Know who are caught in unhappy marriages""Not a lot of Queen of Hearts out there, though I'm still looking, I know they are there.I'm not being down or anything Mary:)Their are a lot off horrible, messed up women around, there are also, but harder to find, some very nice ladies out there. Anyway, bla, bla, bla:) Back to the main topic of the forum, Enjoy your day, Chill:) Peter. - "Mary Quinn" <mary1quinn <gjlist> Saturday, August 09, 2003 12:00 AM Re: [GJ] Meat eaters, vegetarians, all the same to me > Dear Peter, > > I'm crying so hard with laughter right now that I > wanted to thank you for your contribution.
