Hello Peter:

I saw this and didn't understand what it refers to however I'm sure no

genuine Tantric Master would make a statement as that.

Somehow Tantra is associated with sex in the West not as a spiritual

practice. I am not sure how that happened and have no knowledge of how that

error occurred.

I do have some knowledge about Tantra and the many benefits of it, including

improving health and energy. In no way is sex the focus of Tantra.

A very good book I have found is Harish Johari's Tools For Tantra and he

details what is necessary for the aspirant to begin practicing it. There is

a tape that can be purchased to hear the pronunciations in case you don't

have any way of contacting a genuine Tantric Master in person.

I'll quote from the book to demonstrate that this is a spiritual practice:

"One can achieve a state of total awareness through the following six

practices,

1) Sama: Mental quietude and subduing of the passions.

2) Dama: Self restraint and the subjugation of the five sense organs:

Ears, skin, eyes, tongue, nose

and the five organs of action:

mouth, hands, feet, anus, genitals

and the four internal organs:

ahamkara (egoity)

chitta (memory)

buddhi (understanding)

manas (cognition)

3) Uparati: Complete cessation of the perceiving and acting sense faculty.

4) Titiksha: Endurance, patience (the power to endure, without the slightest

discomposure, extremes of heat and cold, joy and sorrow, honor and abuse,

loss and gain and all other pairs of opposites.

5) Samadhan: Constant concentration of the mind.

6) Shraddha: True faith, conviction and devotion.

The aspirant should also have the following six qualifications along with

the six above mentioned treasures. Then he or she is fully competent to

study Tantra.

1) Daksha: Intelligence.

2) Jitendreya: Control over the senses.

3) Sarva himsa vinirmukta: Abstension from violence of all kinds. (including

verbal violence)

4) Sarva prana hitrata: Concern for universal welfare.

5) Shuchi: Purity

6) Astik: Belief in truth, which is vidya (knowledge), Veda (body of

knowledge) and God.

These six give one control over one's animal nature and make one a yogi."

And an amazing and beautiful explanation quoted from Chapter One.

"Tantra is a holistic approach to the study of the universal from the point

of view of the individual: the study of the macrocosm through the study of

the microcosm. It draws on all the sciences-astronomy, astrology,

numerology, physiognomy, physics, chemistry, alchemy, Ayurveda (the

traditional medicine of India), psychology, parapsychology, mathematics,

geometry, and so on-to provide a practical means of realizing the highest

ideals of philosophy in daily life. Instead of separating and categorizing

the different areas of human knowledge, Tantra draws them together like

beads on one string. The beautiful rosary thus formed is a unique instrument

for enhancing the physical, mental, and spiritual life of man and woman."

I also recommend his book on numerology because I've tested a lot of it out

and it is a short cut method to understand relationships between different

planetary types and astrology.

I have looked over Mantak Chia's books on Toaist sex, Tantra like, and in

those techniques, there is specicific postures, rhythms, timings, and so on,

but not ejaculation, usually not orgasm. The aim is to build and retain.

It ends up being rather Hatha Yoga like, clinical, and least of all "dirty".

I think the only dirty sex is when there is a hint of abuse, an appearance

of abuse, such as one party, usually the woman, acting as if she is not

having pleasure, but rather, is being forced, abused, etc., as it often

appears in modern porn, where the man is very agressive, and the woman

appear as if they are in pain.

I am happy the correct perception is coming about Tantra.

Simply it can be defined:-

" Tantra is a philosophy which expounds the Ultimate Reality".

A master told in Hindi:-

" Jis me poorva sach ka vistaar ho, us he tantra kahte he".

Tantra means philosophy in totality. That is why it is against escapism, etc.
