Guest guest
1. Why is this list so silent? Is it my strange personality? 2. I need recommendations as to who is a good practicing astrologer in America that I can refer people to. Please suggest if you've had what you consider an excellent reading with someone professional. 3. Has astrology become boring to the core membership of the group? Does that explain the silence? 4. Is the "hay day" of Jyotish's introduction into the West over? 5. The conferences used to be exciting. I haven't been since Jan 2000. Are they still exciting? 6. Is anyone like me- likes watching astrology for self, but hates reading charts for others due to the stickiness of everyone's karma? 7. Is there anyone else in the group who is: Officially bipolar, lives alone, takes no drugs, works at home? 8. Do my postings make you repulsed, nervous, estranged, etc? 9. Is it my strange personality? My response: The list is now silent, I guess most of the members in the list are the silent type. Also, it is the past actions that determine, present experiences (fate). May be you shouldn't have been heavy handed with some of the acrimonious exchanges of postings by vociferous members, in the past. Some of these members have gone back to the lists and circles to which they always belonged. Others have established their own, because some of them may have felt that you seem to take sides. Anyway past is useful only to learn something useful, but not for brooding about. A moderator who wants the list alive, has to keep conversations going, even if others are not engaging in it. Though, your posting are really enjoyable, you don't make a good conversationalist. If someone posts something and no one else is responding, may be you have the duty as the moderator to converse. Pose questions, make remarks, and challenge their points! > > 2. I need recommendations as to who is a good practicing astrologer in > America that I can refer people to. However, in Toronto, I know an old Tamil Brahmin astrologer, who I consult when I have a need. He is outstanding in Horary Astrology. One has to see him in person, and needs to avail a translator, if not conversant in Tamil. I have met many astrologers in India and Sri Lanka, but have never been impressed the same way as I have been with this one. Charges only Canadian Dollars 30/- for a session that can easily last up to an hour. Though appointments are given, one may be forced to wait for anywhere up to an hour, sometimes. > 3. Guest guest
Dear Goravani, > 1. Why is this list so silent? Is it my strange personality? Your personality is stange (as much strange as mine or anybody else's is I suppose ) but I dont think that could be any reason for list to be quite > 2. Well I can mention my friend Narayan Iyer narayan He stays in Iselin, New Jersey, I think personaly meeting a Jyotisha to get a reading gives more satisfaction and better readings. He doesn't do much professional readings but one try to send him an email. And Everybody knows the more famous ones' > 3. Has astrology become boring to the core membership of the group? Is the "hay day" of Jyotish's introduction into the West over? I hope not. Till the time there are curious souls seeking answer for human conditions Jyotish will be alive. > 5. The conferences used to be exciting. I haven't been since Jan 2000. Are > they still exciting? I recently took part in Sri Jagannatha Center conferences Aug-Oct time. It was all very enlightening. The amount of energy given by the many Jyotishas was very inspiring. These are few times when you feel life has more meanings. > 6. Is anyone like me- likes watching astrology for self, but hates reading > charts for others due to the stickiness of everyone's karma? I started Jyotish reading your website articles and SJC some years ago. It was on a quest to understand my own plight. But nowadays I feel enthused to look at people's charts and help. I started Jyotish in 1998 taking your advice in your website to begin from Mahabharatha and Gita. > 8. Do my postings make you repulsed, nervous, estranged, etc? NO NOT AT ALL > 9. You sound as if you are feeling superior to others. I don't read others charts so much, because I am afraid of making mistakes. But slowly I understand that I know just as much as many others of the so called learned members. > > 7. Guest guest
Hello Das, my name is Marcus and I have followed the conversations on the list quite regularily. It is a very good list and as you say everything goes in cycles. There are so many of us having a very active work and private life and it is often to loud to listen to the fine tunes of Jyotish. The list is great and was a big help when I started. I have joined a private list by invitation with something like 50 members recently and this list is lead by a Guru like a school class and certain toppics are worked through with the chance to ask questions. Even there it is only a small core that is active on the list and it those 3 - 4 fall sick for a week it is dead silent. I would not worry as activity will come back. It just takes a breath > > 1. Why is this list so silent? Is it my strange personality? Your personality is not stranger than each of ours. You have to live with your stars and I have to bare mine. It is important to understand them and therefore so I thought is Jyotish a great help. Relax and we will soon find a toppic which will attract the crouds. > > 2. I need recommendations as to who is a good practicing astrologer in > America that I can refer people to. Please suggest if you've had what you > consider an excellent reading with someone professional. I had only one reading done by Robert Koch but have to say I do not want to go somewhere else. He is such a fine soul and such a fine astrologer that he can touch your heart. It is very empowering to talk to him and I can only recommend Robert if you like a personal touch. > > 3. Has astrology become boring to the core membership of the group? Does > that explain the silence? How can Jyotish become boring. It is a private conversation with God. It is the light of knowledge which can help so much. We just have to use it the right way. > > 4. Is the "hay day" of Jyotish's introduction into the West over? Well I live in Australia and can tell you there is not a lot of people around that have heared a lot of it. > > 5. The conferences used to be exciting. I haven't been since Jan 2000. Are > they still exciting? If you can make it you should try to come again. I have been to California last summer and it was more than exciting. I have probably learned more in those 2 weeks than in the rest of the year. It is often very difficult to take the time for a good read or a study of a certain toppic as the world got so bussy. With a dedicated time of a week or so this is like a diving into a project and hardly emersing back out of it. > > 6. Is anyone like me- likes watching astrology for self, but hates reading > charts for others due to the stickiness of everyone's karma? Well if you look at charts you can see there are 5 malefics, one neutral and 3 benefics. This alone indicates this world to be a place of suffering. Some more some less. If we can overcome to see us the centre of this suffering we might have a chance to see the suffering of others. > > 7. Guest guest
I would like to contribute, but I hope my responses do not offend as that is not my intent. It is born of sincerity and truth. > gjlist, Das Goravani <das@g...> wrote: >> >> 1. Why is this list so silent? Is it my strange personality? >> No. The majority of my silence can be accounted for by the feeling that there are more experienced people present -- those people seem to feel very confident in their views and yet they often disagree. This is not the setting in which I feel I can make much of a Jyotish-related contribution. Life is much more than Jyotish, astrology, a bad Saturn, a favorable Jupiter. Though astrology may point to predestined events, debts, or situations, I think people want to feel (right or wrong) that it neither indicates nor dictates *experiential* inevitabilities. They want to see joy in whatever may occur -- and astrology is inadequate to the task of explaining the joy which may or may not be present in a given situation. My experience shows they wish to use astrology as part of a broad spiritual journey that includes arts with other, less fatalistic perspectives. They do not wish to see it as a glimpse into fate, and in most cases I feel this perspective leads to more harm than good. The message I have repeatedly heard in this list is "I am suffering, the planets are to blame, and we cannot escape the horrors that await us all." Granted, I've a waxing Moon in Cancer, in the 1st house (Cancer in Navamsa, as well) so this may be an exaggeration. Nevertheless, I believe this message is in the list and it tends to favor certain types of participation and dissuade a variety of other participation possibilities. It's a depressive influence. > >> 6. Is anyone like me- likes watching astrology for self, but hates >> reading >> charts for others due to the stickiness of everyone's karma? > This has recently come up for me, actually. I think this could be resolved for me personally by not allowing astrological readings to become social events (from the subject's perspective). An ernest, introspective seeker of truth gets wisdom and even some measure of joy or relief from their chart, regardless of its composition. But the casual enquirer has become a sad omen for me. >> 8. Do my postings make you repulsed, nervous, estranged, etc? > I love the posts of heartfelt introspection, such as the recent "My View" email. I feel there is wisdom in the peaceful statement of one's insights and journey. I do not enjoy the spiritual debate that occurs in all similar email lists, as I find this oxymoronic and lacking in the humble sharing that true spiritual revelation encourages. I appreciate this list for the sincere insights that are expressed with an open heart and mind. MF
