Guest guest
Om sree Mahaganapataye namah Dear members of list, could someone please explain me how to calculate vedic months (maasa). Is for example Caitra maasa when amavasya is in Citra Nakshatra?
Guest guest
|| Om Gurave Namah || Dear Vojatrajananda, No, The months are named as per the nakshatra approximately where the Full Moon occurs. As Chitra Nakshatra is between Virgo and Taurus Sun is in Aries in Chitra(Chaitra) Month. So, The naming is as per Shuklaanta (Shukla = waxing, anta-end = Full Moon) convention. Suklanata/Full moon indicates maximum strenght for the moon. But the convention of begining the month from day after amavasya is followed. For mundane leaving Pratipad i.e day after amavasyais used. Amavasya moon indicates material nature. So naming is as per full moon but the convention most prevlant for begining the month is after Amavasya called Amanta. -Warm Regards S.
