Lagna lord is in conjunction with ketu and shani and naive has ketu mahadasha running. This combination along with mercury too in twelfth house has caused this mental disorder. But, keep hope because after may 2006 when venus mahadasha will begin the native will recover fully. What all dashas will cause mental illness ? Per vedic astrology is mental illness treated similar to physical illness ? But above all we will surely keep hope alive. According to the birth particulars provided, it appears that due to the utterly afflicted and weakened of Mercury (significator of nerves, communicative capablities controling brain) in a bad placement in the sign of Cancer with its most malefic Lord MOON (significator of Mind, emotions of all types etc.) besides the Lagna Lord Sun, (significator of power of brain, receiving, analyzing, absorbing and rejecting various messages) though strong, occupying the house of Gemini owned by afflicted and weakened MERCURY seems to be the reason causing mental illness to the native. Yes, the native is indeed born with this problem but it manifested during the year 2001.
